17 miles. Lunch stop at Lake Needwood @ 10 miles. Toilets/porta-a-potties available at Lake Needwood.
For this Wednesday adventure, we will be e-biking from Veirs Mill on the Rock Creek Trail to Lake Needwood via Lake Bernard Frank and Meadowside Nature Center. The trail is around 17 miles, mostly flat, but with one short challenging hill (10% grade) @ 5.8 miles. (There is no shame in walking your bike.)
After a photo-op at Lake Bernard, we will make our way to Meadowside Nature Center. There, you may take an optional half-mile excursion on foot to the Pioneer Homestead at the nature center. The site is intended to reflect a small family farm after the Civil War. You can leave your bike; we will have bike guards if we get a volunteer or two.
After our stop at Meadowside, we make our way to Lake Needwood, where we stop for snacks/lunch and toilet amenities. After lunch we return to Rock Creek Trail and make our way back to our starting point.
Did you know that Maryland is the only state that has no natural lakes? That's right! Lake Needwood and Lake Bernard are man-made and function as reservoirs for the surrounding region.
To learn more about Maryland's lakes and reservoirs, see this FAQ page from the Maryland Geological Survey. http://www.mgs.md.gov/geology/maryland_lakes_and_reservoirs.html
Please bring some snacks, lunch and plenty of water.
Remember to charge your battery. While this is a relatively short ride, there is at least one challenging hill. Analog bike-riders are always welcome.
The group stops a few times for slower riders to catch up. The distance will be 17 miles or shorter any time you are fully satisfied with biking for the day.
FYI: membership of the Ride With GPS E-bike Lovers club is now free as www.ebikelovers.com is generating sufficient income from ads to cover the costs.

For the E-bike Lovers group to be successful, we need to grow our membership carefully. Please feel free to invite other E-bike lovers, spread the word, and let's have fun.
As usual, non-assisted bikers are most welcome.
