Negative Space Signaling: A Threat to Election Integrity? (virtual)

Details
The aftermath of the 2020 election in Georgia has produced many
questions regarding election integrity, including the integrity of the
state's recently purchased Ballot Marking Devices, used statewide, which
produce paper records for each voter.
In the interest of improving election transparency, there have been
calls to release digital scans of all ballots, which are presumably
de-identified. However, it will be demonstrated that markings in the
unused space of the paper ballots can allow, either intentionally or
unintentionally, "out of band" messages to be passed through publicly
disclosed digital copies of the ballots, which can then threaten
election integrity.
