I Am a Noble Being. You are Too!... Which Means What For Our Lives?!?

Details

We live within a culture of criticism, focused on all that’s wrong – with others, society, and the planet. We assign blame, always on the lookout for who’s at fault. We attend, and react, to whatever might become the next injustice. It becomes hard to see positives in the world, in others, indeed, even in ourselves. This orientation toward critique has even come to define our understanding of intelligence; the smartest person in the room, that so-called “expert”, is the one who’s best at identifying and analyzing the problems of society in the minutest of detail. This increasingly ubiquitous emphasis on criticism is today leading more and more, in a world caught within the throes of rapid disintegration, toward depression and despair, leaving many of us paralyzed in hopelessness. The teachings of the Baha’i Faith, the world’s youngest independent religion, understand reality differently, beginning with this fundamental truth: Each and every person is, in reality, a noble being!

How do we understand this Baha’i concept of human nobility, and what does such a spiritual principle imply for the ways that we live our lives, individually and in relationship, in communities and the wider society?

These are some of the questions we will consider in our discussion today, questions from which more questions will assuredly emerge. All voices and each person – of every religion, culture, race, nation, gender, and class – are welcome here and will be truly honored, as a noble being (promise!), in this space.

O Son of Spirit! Noble I have created thee, yet thou hast abased thyself. Rise then unto that for which thou wast created.” Baha’i Writings

We would rather you attend in person at 124 Madison in Oak Park, of course. Still, we'd rather see you online than not see you at all. So, just in case, here's a zoom link for this event: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88158217522?pwd=cGxNeDR2eCthN0k2d2tlSk1sMnViQT09
