Braid: Orchestrating Secure, Distributed Erlang Nodes & Beyond

Details

Sinterklaas a.k.a. Saint Nicholas has prepared a present for Erlang and Elixir enthusiasts in Belgium. We are going to have yet another meetup in 2023. It is going to happen on Tuesday Dec. 5, 19h-21h in Louvain-la-Neuve, in the Pierre Curie building on the UCL campus, auditorium
PCUR 01. We will be kindly hosted by Prof. van Roy and UCL.

There will be two talks, the main talk and a smaller lightning talk.

The main talk of the day will be given by Peer Stritzinger. Peer Stritzinger is the founder and the managing director of Peer Stritzinger GmbH which created GRiSP, a platform to run Erlang on small embedded systems and focusses on building Automotive, Railway and Industrial IoT applications and tries to use Erlang technology wherever useful. Participating in several EU funded research projects, he is trying to push the envelope for what can be done with Erlang and the other languages in the Ecosystem running on the BEAM (Erlang VM).

Tha main talk is Unraveling the Potential of Braid: Orchestrating Secure, Distributed Erlang Nodes & Beyond.

Join us for an enlightening talk on “Braid,” a cutting-edge system designed to revolutionize the way we handle distributed computing and orchestration. Braid is an Erlang/OTP application that enables the spawning and orchestration of containers, facilitating seamless communication between them and their peers across various platforms. During this session, we’ll delve into the intricacies of Braid, exploring its core components: Braid CLI to define connections and control the infrastructure, Braidnet for deployment on cloud platforms like [Fly.io](http://fly.io/), and Braidnode to extend and integrate the hosted applications.

Discover how Braid integrates a robust certificate infrastructure through Braidcert to ensure secure Erlang distribution between instances. We achieve this without exposing private keys to the application which doesn’t need to care about its secure handling. We’ll also discuss its capability to run not just Erlang nodes but extend its functionality to arbitrary containers, microkernel-based applications, and even IoT nodes based on GRiSP technology.
This talk is perfect for developers, system architects, and technology enthusiasts eager to learn about the latest advancements in distributed computing and secure orchestration. Whether you’re looking to enhance your current systems or explore new technological horizons, Braid offers a glimpse into the future of secure, distributed node orchestration. Don’t miss this opportunity to unravel the potential of Braid and how it can transform the landscape of distributed computing!

Yuri Leikind will give a shorter talk about a small cryptography related utility library he coded.

There will be pizzas and drinks 😎
