Second Elixir Ruhr Meetup: Power of Process Orchestration
Details
We're excited to announce our second Elixir Ruhr Meetup.
This time, we welcome Christoph Gnip, CIO of profection group, who will kick things off with a talk about process orchestration:
Business processes are often locked away in PDF diagrams that developers ignore, or hidden inside complex code that business owners can't understand. Traditional solutions - like heavy Java-based BPM engines -often introduce more problems than they solve, creating "black boxes" in your infrastructure.
But what if your runtime was your process engine?
In this talk, we will explore why Elixir and the Erlang VM (BEAM) are uniquely suited for orchestration. We’ll demonstrate how to map BPMN flowcharts directly to Elixir concepts:
• Tasks become GenServers.
• Arrows become Messages.
• Process Flows become Supervision Trees.
We will walk through a prototype engine ("Peex") that parses standard BPMN XML and spawns it as a living, fault-tolerant application structure. Join us to see how we can close the gap between business logic and technical implementation using the native power of OTP.

Please note that the talk will take place on-site only and won’t be streamed. We can hold it in either German or English - whichever works best for the people attending.
We hope for a great evening, with an inspiring talk and insightful discussions. And, of course, dinks & Pizza.
A rough timeline will be like this:

- 19:00 - Talk by Christoph Gnip
- 19:45 - Questions & Discussion
- 20:00 - Networking, Drinks & Food
