Welcome to the September 2020 edition of Elixir Australia! We've got a couple of great talks scheduled for you this month that are guaranteed to learn you some serious BEAM-based tech:

  1. Cipherstash: A fully encrypted search index written in Elixir and gRPC
  • Daniel Draper :: @danieldraper

Dan has been working on a new kind of database written in Elixir and C: its fully encrypted with client-side keys and supports full text search. And it has an Ecto adapter!

He'd love to share the tool as well as some of the lessons learned working with gRPC and HTTP2 in Elixir as well as how to craft a custom Ecto adapter.

  1. Strong, static FP on the BEAM with Hamler

James will do an intro to strongly-typed functional programming using Hamler (https://www.hamler-lang.org/), a strongly-typed language with compile-time typechecking, and built-in support for concurrency and distribution on the BEAM.
