Fall Mushroom Foray (Short notice)

Details

Join Martin and Rick for a scientific foray to document the fungi at Ministik Bird Sanctuary. We'll gather at the parking lot/playground of the former Ministik School site and proceed to the foray location as a group. Click the map image below for directions. The data collected will contribute to baseline mycology data for Elk Island National Park and the Beaver Hills Biosphere.

This is part of a three year community science project, in collaboration with the Alberta Mycological Society, in which we will identify, catalogue and sequence the macrofungi (mushrooms) found within Elk Island National Park and the Beaver Hills Biosphere.

Please dress for the weather and bring a knife, basket and field guide if you have them. Note that specimens are collected for research purposes only and may not be taken home for consumption.

Participants should be paid up members of either the Friends of Elk Island Society or the Alberta Mycological Society.

More information on the Beaver hills Mycoflora project can be found on this page. This includes research protocols and instructional videos. If you are new to collecting mushrooms for scientific research it would be helpful to watch these videos and familiarise yourself with iNaturalist.
