Spring Hike Trappers Lake
Details
Come explore a rarely visited corner of the Park. Join us for a guided hike (snowshoes recommended if snow remains) through spruce bogs and open fens while they are still partially frozen - offering a rare chance to enter ecosystems that take thousands of years to develop.
We will begin our journey at Trappers Lake - a bird migration stopover. With favourable conditions, we may spot eagles, ravens, woodpeckers, and migrating waterfowl (ducks, swans, geese) From the lake’s edge, we’ll follow the park fence before venturing into forested terrain where human footprints are uncommon, exploring hummocky, glacier-sculpted ground and early signs of spring.
Arthur is a herpetologist and instructor of ecology and diversity at MacEwan University. He looks forward to sharing his passion for exploring and documenting species using iNaturalist (download the iNaturalist app to your phone and you can become a citizen scientist by contributing photos to Elk Island’s project)
***You may have to climb an eight foot gate to enter the area.***
