A Dip into Philosophy: Words, pictures and making sense of ourselves
Details
In Western philosophy and in Christianity “The Word” is paramount. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God” John 1;1
More mundanely, we rely on words all day every day to get through life,
But what if words were not as not in fact as clear and simple as we think?
Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889–1951) was a pivotal 20th-century philosopher who redefined philosophy as the logical analysis of language. His early work, Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, proposed that language is a logical picture of facts. Later, he argued in Philosophical Investigations that meaning comes from "language-games"—socially embedded uses of language rather than strict labels. Language is a flexible kind of “game”.
Truth does not therefore not have a single, unified definition; its meaning varies based on the context in which it is used.
"Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent".
"A new word is like a fresh seed sown on the ground of the discussion".
