Embedded Israel Meeting #12 - Debootstrap Essentials and Connected Vehicles(V2X)
Details
Welcome to our first meetup for 2024!
Important: Please RSVP only if you intend to arrive. There will be double registration, to ensure that those who are committed to our right cause indeed register (i.e. minimize no-shows), so please make sure you are subscribed to updates in email and in our facebook group
Embedded Israel's 2024 Gameplan and "technical debt" from 2023:
Syn Embedded-Israel-ers! Remember our minimal Linux system building lectures in the beginning of Embedded Israel (@see meetup #3 and on, as meetup #1 was not recorded)? Remember the intentions to cover Secure Boot flows and OTA's last year? Well, this year I will cover everything in a series of lectures. Starting with debootstrapping, in this talk (for those who know me well, you know I can teach 8 hours in a raw and cover everything, and make you even understand that, right? (if not, see meetup #4, and some of the following addendum and meetups ;-) )
ALRIGHT, LET'S FOCUS ON THE PRESENT, AND GET EXCITED ABOUT OUR UPCOMING MEETUP:
The gameplan for our next meetup, kindly hosted by NoTraffic is:
- 18:15 - Gathering and Networking
- 18:30 - Welcome notes / community and next meetups
This gives you 10 minutes to submit your next talks ;-)
- 18:40 - Connected Vehicle Platforms - V2X by Roy Pelzel @NoTraffic
We will talk about NoTraffic Connected Vehicle Platform using one of the hottest trends this year the V2X technology.
So what is included in the menu?
- Why V2X became an important layer when building the smart cities of the future?
- V2X fundamentals
- V2X standards and basic applications
- How it takes a critical part in the autonomous vehicles revolution.
- Connected vehicle embedded design considerations and complexity.
So you can expect to get latest knowledge in V2X technology and discover together the endless opportunities it has.
For desert : NoTraffic products are already V2X ready and we will present some real world applications ๐
- 19:30 - Networking Break
- 19:40 - (De)Bootstrapping Systems - Considerations in building and optimizing Ubuntu and Debian based root file systems by Ron Munitz @thePSCG
This talk will cover everything that anyone who wants to run a Debian or Ubuntu root filesystem on their embedded device would be glad to know before their first or second such project, rather than spending days in customizing, shrinking, and fighting with every MB or every second of boot time.
In particular we will:
- Meet Debootstrap (and cross-debootstrap)
- Explore different (Debian based) distros
- Understand the different package repositories and cached files
- Understand what happens when caches are updated and more packages are updated
- Meet common challenges and solutions in debootstrapping
- Do common recipes, such as default password, motd/issue, ssh, autologin, etc.:
- Discuss considerations in booting a debootstrapped system and how to chose the (right) init framework
- Discuss sizing and performance constraints: Build-time and runtime (and recovery)
- Cover early runtime tricks: setting up (ethernet) networking in ramdisk and switch_rooting
- 20:25 - Lightning Talks - Show and Tell by those who tell me they want to speak by the day before the meetup
Community lightning talks - tell or show us what you are working on.
- 20:35 - Closing Notes - Ron Munitz @EmbeddedIsrael
- 20:36- "After party" - more networking, food and drinks
