Embedded Israel #16 - The first Zephyr Project meetup
Details
Dear friends,
You are welcome to attend the first Zephyr Project meetup in Israel!
Story and thanks:
This meetup (well, all meetups are) is a bit more special, as it is time for everyone who supported us to get some appreciation, and demonstration on their boards!
Thank you firsts, and well earned ones: Kate Stewart for connecting me to Susan Remmert from The Zephyr Project, who in term connected us to our host, Sternum IoT, and to our board sponsor, Nordic Semiconductors.
Huge thanks goes to all of our speakers, and since I am included, I guess it is also a good time to thank myself for talking to the Zephyr Project team in Seattle, and learning about their support. They promised, and delivered - and this is to be learned by all of the companies in Israel - we are a meetup based in Israel!
Oh, and it is also our long awaited Zephyr Project meetup! For this reason, we will take a pause in the "Things I expect you to know, so I teach you" Embedded Linux curriculum (well it is loved so we will dedicate a couple of minutes to it), and have a sponsored and fun meetup dedicated to the Zephyr Project! This is the first Zephyr Project meetup in Israel, as far as we are aware, we know it will be outstanding, and we are already working on more meetups, so sponsors, prepare yourselves!
Agenda
- 5PM-5:15PM Gathering
- 5:15PM-5:30PM Welcome notes: About Embedded Israel and a presentation of our host - Ron Munitz (Founder @ Embedded Israel)
- 5:30PM-6:30PM A (super) practical and down to earth introduction to the Zephyr Project - Ron Munitz (Chief of Everything @ The PSCG) and Vadim Malenboim (
Sr. Staff Field Application Engineer @ SiFive)
Part I:
Ron will deliver a (super) practical and down to earth introduction of what the Zephyr project is and why you should (probably) use it. Ron will provide a (super quick) getting started guide, some key concepts for development, and will demonstrate quick application building, flashing and debugging on several devices: a Simulator, an Emulator and because we finally have sponsors on HiFive1 (OK, that's because Vadim is awesome) and on Nordic's nRF52840.
Part II - Device trees and practical problem solving
Vadim will explain you about the concepts, a little bit of theory, and mostly practice of small changes in Device Tree Blobs that could make an unusable device flashable and debuggable, describing a real problem encountered when testing the hifive1_revb board for it's Zephyr capabilities. These are the tales of a super FAE that no problem can withstand (that's what you get for letting Ron write an abstract ;-) ) - 6:30PM - 6:45 Short mingling break
- 6:45PM-7:15PM Observability 101: Hands-on Data Collection and Bug Investigation for Zephyr Devices - Lian Granot (Co-Founder & CTO @ Sternum)
In this hands-on session, you will learn how to collect meaningful data from Zephyr devices for smart analytics on device behavior and bug investigation. Plus, you will get free access to Sternum's IoT observability platform to practice what we discuss. - 7:15PM - 7:30PM Closing notes and a prize winning game courtesy of The PSCG, Nordic Semiconductor and the Zephyr Project*
*I told you I am taking more than 1 for a reason ;-)
We can't wait to see you, it is going to be legendary!
