Decentralized Small-Scale Carbon Farming

Details

Dear Chainists,

while the climate crisis urges us to act now to increase funding for climate solutions such as forest protection, reforestation, soil regeneration, carbon farming, and empowering local communities to protect nature, there are several bureaucratic barriers and bottlenecks to accessing finance.

Offsets and the voluntary carbon market offer a toolkit we need to finance the green transition, regenerative initiatives and support local people facing the consequences of climate change.

Well-designed blockchain solutions can support the voluntary carbon market by improving traceability, reducing risk and transactions, making monitoring and verification of emission reductions cost-effective, building trust between people on the ground and investors, and providing transparency in the supply chain of carbon credits, providing numbers that are not inflated or making projects dependent on a high number of intermediaries taking all the profit.

Therefore we are very excited for the opportunity of having Laura and Nataly Cubillos as our guest speakers. Laura and Nataly, Colombian women living in Germany, have created a startup called Carbono Local+ that connects local carbon farming projects in Colombia and Latin America with climate finance through carbon credits.

In this meetup, they will talk about the potential of blockchain technology to improve the efficiency, transparency, and trust of the voluntary carbon market.

The meetup will be held virtually and will be recorded.

Kind regards
Laura, Nataly & the Chainist Orga Team
