MEN R&D: Men that Read and Discuss — Dealing with Feeling (Marc Brackett)
This ongoing book discussion circle invites attendees to explore emotion regulation, resilience, and authentic relating through Marc Brackett’s Dealing with Feeling. We’ll foster confidentiality, honesty, and skill‑building with a clear reading plan and practical exercises you can apply between sessions.
Expectations for Participants:
• Commitment to reading assigned chapters before each meeting.
• Willingness to engage in open and thoughtful discussion.
• Responsibility for obtaining a copy of the book (Kindle or print).

• Location: Salt Lake City Main Library – Meeting Room A
• Time: 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM

Monday, January 26th, 2026 -
Part 1 — Where Are We Now? (Introduction; Chapters 1–2)
Focus: Current landscape of feelings and barriers to regulation.
Practice: Personal audit — track triggers and typical responses for one week.
Monday, February 9th, 2026 -
Part 2 — Definitions (Chapters 3–6)
Focus: What emotion regulation and co‑regulation are, and what they look like in action.
Practice: Create a calming plan (breath, pause, name, choose) and a co‑regulation script.
Monday, February 23rd, 2026 -
Part 3 — Building Blocks (Chapters 7–8)
Focus: Hidden drivers of regulation; moving from chaos to clarity.
Practice: Identify one hidden driver; design one clarity ritual (journaling, walk, cold rinse, etc.).
Monday, March 9th, 2026 -
Part 4 — Strategies (Chapters 9–12)
Focus: Quieting mind/body, redirecting thoughts, relationship skills, and optimizing your “emotion regulation budget.”
Practice: Pick two strategies; run them daily; log outcomes.
Monday, March 23rd, 2026 -
Part 5 — Practice Makes Permanent (Chapters 13–14; Epilogue)
Focus: How children learn to regulate and becoming your best version; making skills stick.
Practice: Draft a personal Emotion Regulation Plan (ERP) and share highlights.
