Empowering Women with Tech is proudly partnered with AO to celebrate IWD 2021 & the launch of AO’s Women’s Network.

This year's IWD theme is on choosing to challenge. From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge ourselves to amplify celebrating women's achievements, raise awareness against bias & continue taking actions for equality.

Communication is key to our roles & many of us experience challenges - from not feeling listened to, through to concerns that your delivery method is not impactful. Through the pandemic, an added layer of complexity has been put in, perhaps more constantly than before - the (near constant) video communication.
How can we come across how we want to on screen? How can you feel connected to others when you're not in the same room?

Our Keynote is from Viv Groskop who will be discussing 'How To Own The Zoom'. Viv will discuss everything from your camera position, game face, breathing through your feet, engaging an audience you can't see, dealing with a screen-hogger - & the cheering fact that even Zoom's CEO has been known to accidentally hit the mute button...

Viv is an award-winning stand-up comedian & the author of the best-selling book How to Own the Room. She hosts the chart-topping podcast of the same name where she has interviewed Hillary Clinton, Nigella Lawson, Mary Portas, Professor Mary Beard, Julie Andrews, Google's Matt Brittin, Succession's Brian Cox & dozens more about what it means to them to "own the room" — to convey power, authority & confidence.

We will also hear from Lucie McLean, Director of Outfits at Zalando, Berlin. Lucie McLean is a Product Director with 14 years experience building high profile, large scale digital consumer products.

Lucie started her working career as a journalist for BBC News, before moving into mobile product management. At the BBC she led teams to develop award-winning products including the BBC London 2012 Olympics app & mobile websites & the BBC Sport app. She also grew & led the team to build some of the most-loved UK's Children’s apps.

Lucie relocated to Berlin in 2019 & spent some time at travel-start up, Omio before recently joining Zalando as Product Director of their Outfits Programme. Lucie is also a regular speaker at product & digital conferences around the world.

Lucie is passionate about helping people make the transition to product management, building happy, empowered teams, helping product managers find their voices & develop their personal toolkits & supporting women in tech. She will be diving into her personal career experiences & the challenges this has taken head on including moving to a new country whilst progressing in her career.
