What we'll do

Join Norman and Lenka on one of the most amazing walks in Australia!

Jatbula Trail outside Katherine is incredibly difficult to book as limited to 15 walkers per day, sold out within 10 minutes of release! Its also one of the most amazing walks in Australia, water hole to river, to waterfall to water hole...Amazing campsites and rugged scenery.

I led this walk August 2018 and cannot recommend this walk highly enough, fairly easy walking and wonderful campsites.

The Jatbula Trail is a 62km one way walk, departing from Nitmiluk Gorge, traversing through the western edge of the Arnhem Land escarpment over sandstone plateau scrub, woodlands, monsoon forests and riverine landscapes finishing at Leilyn (Edith Falls) you will walk in the footsteps of generations of Jawoyn who traditionally travelled through parts of the trail. The trail is named after Jawoyn Traditional Owner Peter Jatbula who was instrumental in securing land rights for the Jawoyn people.

Yes August can be hot however easy walking with no hills, early start 8am walking beats the heat and nights are balmy so no heavy packs aim for 10kg maximum!

Arrive Darwin anytime before Friday 02 August as an early start is required, drive to Katherine with an optional kayak through Katherine Gorge. Drive to Nitmiluk Visitor Centre where Norman and Lenka arrange a car shuffle everyone else relax and camp overnight at Nimiluk caravan park unpowered campsite, early start next day with a boat transfer to start of walk 6 day 5 night Jatbula Trail camping at pre booked campsites, at end of walk Edith Falls relax in the pools and waterfall while Lenka and Norman arrange the car shuffle then drive back to Darwin. There is the option of visiting Litchfield National Park on the way back to Darwin so late flights are required or next day.

Day one Nitmiluk Gorge to Biddlecombe Cascades - 8.3km Day two Biddlecombe to Crystal Falls – 11km Day three Crystal Falls to 17 Mile Falls – 10km Day four 17 Mile Falls to Sandy Camp - 16.8km Day five Sandy Camp to Sweetwater Pool - 11.1km to Sweetwater Pool to Leliyn - 4.5km End of walk! 7th Aug total 6 days 5 nights camping
