Abstract:
Sponsorship has emerged over recent decades as a key revenue source for leading sports teams and leagues. The global spending in sports sponsorships is one of the fastest growing marketing communication channels for brands like Coca-Cola, Verizon and Mercedes. The total worldwide spending in sports sponsorship topped $65.8 billion in 2018 and is expected to continue to grow at over 5% per year for the next decade. The Association of National Advertisers recently released a study which found that despite the continued growth of sports sponsorship expenditures by brands and the “repeated sentiment from marketers that there is a need for improved measurement and assessment of sponsorship’s business impact, there has been little progress toward this goal.” The Center for Sports Analytics at Samford University has been conducting cutting edge research related to sponsorship measurement utilizing social media big data coupled with traditional marketing research. Dr. White will discuss this research during the presentation.
