Title: Usage of PyTorch and ROS in the development of autonomous mobile robots
Gideon is a Croatian startup, focused on developing AI and 3D-vision based autonomous mobile robots for material handling in logistics, manufacturing, and other industrial environments. They are working with some of the biggest companies worldwide on automating their most complex material handling operations and enabling people to focus on what they do best, while robots take over the hard work. In their teams in Croatia, US and Germany they have gathered 150+ super-talented people, including twelve PhDs and 80+ Masters of robotics hardware and software engineering.
In this meetup, we will talk about how we use PyTorch and ROS for Python in our work. Since the release of PyTorch in late 2016, the number of people and projects relying on PyTorch has grown exponentially, making it the most popular machine learning framework among both research scientists and AI engineers. In this presentation we will show some of its key features and how it can be used for solving various computer vision problems, including helping our robots to understand the world around them. The Robot Operating System (ROS) is a set of software libraries and tools that help you build robot applications. It is commonly used with C++ and/or Python. In this presentation we will show some of its key features, why we use it and how it can be used for communication between processes and hosts in Python.
