About us

We are Jakarta Writers.
Join the community! It doesn't matter if you just pick up pen and paper or if you are writing since years; it doesn't matter what and how often you write.

This group is perfect for all those interested in storytelling, and in exploring and developing their craft.

We are the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta... and we invite you to join us! Everyone is welcome.

Jakarta Writers (former Jakarta Creatives) is the community to explore, practice, or enjoy all forms of writing and creativity in Jakarta. Other than regular writing events and workshops we do book clubs, book swaps, comedy events as well as occasionally attend museums and poetry open mics, watch movies, and much more!

Together with the group Jakarta Friends (which mostly focus on social activities) we are all about authentic connections in an uncomplicated and informal setting.

Together, we are creating an inclusive environment where everyone is welcome. This community is a convergence of people and cultures.

Over the past 3,5 years, with Jakarta Writers & Jakarta Friends we have had over 250 events with about 2,000 attendees! Everyone should always feel welcome to join disregarding from their ethnicity, nationality, religion, creed, age, language skills, gender identification, sexual orientation, background, ability, income, social status, or any other arbitrary trait.

We have a yearly membership fee to join our events. This is explained in detail in every event description. The membership fee is not expensive and gives access to all events, while guaranteeing that hosting events remains sustainable for the organisers. There's much more value to members in a yearly fee than in an event fee.

We guarantee to keep organising plenty of events and the fee is refundable if the group closes down or if there are no events for more than three months. You can attend the first event for a sneak peek price!

You can also connect via chat and social media:

You are invited to **join the group Jakarta Friends, too 👉🏼 https://www.meetup.com/jakarta-friends/** With Jakarta Friends we eat and drink together, play board games, talk business, socialize, do language exchanges, explore the city by walking and culinary tours, and much more!

We look forward to meet you at a next event!

JakWri and JakFri is the biggest, first, most active, and most inclusive MeetUp community in Jakarta… and we invite you to join us for this WOMEN ONLY event: EXPLORE INDONESIAN CULTURE + DINNER in Central Jakarta!

+++ This is a joint event with Jakarta Friends hosted by Gina. Please do not reigster to both! One registration is enough. +++

Everyone is always welcome to join our events. Our community is all about creating authentic in-person connections in this urban jungle. Come as you are... it’s the best version of yourself.

ABOUT THE EVENT

Jakarta is referred to as a melting pot due to its status as a "home" for numerous ethnic groups and cultures from across Indonesia. Indonesia is abundant in local artistry and artists. Therefore, let's discover them together.

At this event, we'll honor Indonesian women artists by attending an art exhibition at the National Gallery of Indonesia. Until the end of this month, the gallery will present the artwork of 12 female Indonesian artists spanning various generations.

We'll gather at 5.00 PM and meet in the lobby of the gallery.
Note: There's an entrance fee. 50.000 IDR for WNI and WNA with KITAS. And 150.000 IDR for WNA. This can be paid on the spot.

After visiting the Gallery, we'll have dinner at the Stroom Coffee. And if you want to join only for dinner, it's possible too! However, you will need to find the group and be patient to get a seat at the restaurant, etc.

It's the first time we organise this event! You can take a look at all past events of JakWri here!

ABOUT THE DINNER VENUE

Once we finish exploring the art exhibit, we'll head over to Stroom Coffee for dinner. It's just a quick 5-minute stroll from the National Gallery of Indonesia.
Despite having "Coffee" in its name, the menu features a diverse selection of food and beverages. The restaurant is located within a historic building, creating a lovely ambiance for us to enjoy our meal and have our "female talk." Let’s create our own safe space to exchange stories.

ABOUT THE HOST

Your host for this event will be Gina, a seasoned local with a lot of knowledge about the city and eager to welcome new friends to our community.

HOW TO REGISTER TO THE EVENT?

To register, just click “Attend”! There are a few simple rules

  • This event is for WOMEN ONLY. We want to connect with each other and share our various experiences as modern women living in big cities.
  • We kindly ask attendees who cannot manage to join to update RSVP at least 24 h before the event as a courtesy to other attendees and event organisers.
  • Be on time! We want to watch the show together. Latecomers cannot be accomodated and need to find everyone.
  • People in the waitlist cannot attend, and are encouraged to check a few hours before the event if they got a spot
  • Repeated no-show (3X) without updating RSVP will be removed from the group.
  • Cancellations a few hours before the event are unfriendly for other attendees, the organiser, and the venue, and should be avoided. They still count as no-show.
  • No +1 allowed for this event

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
