Just another DevOps group? Think again!
DevOps and SRE aren't two competing methods, but rather closely related mates designed help break down organisational silos to deliver better, quicker software.
Site Reliability Engineering focus is around OPERATIONS. That last word is another word for your boss BTW...the customer!
It's not necessarily about the (perhaps outdated?) deep-dive tech focus on config management, automation of releases, infrastructure as code and (Devops) focused delivery speed (although these are also important), it's about focusing on the customer, getting visibility up, and making systems reliable.
Let's meet to talk about help BUSINESS OUTCOMES zeroing in on observability, incident management, capacity planning and of course, service reliability.
Just maybe if we focus more on these pillars, and less on the DevOps speed of delivery paradigm, the delivery of features might just be that bit better. Who knows....maybe we will yet be able to reduce headcount and associated costs, that what the promise was, right? What happened?!
