A Rare Earth Mine's Journey to Net Zero
Details
*** SIGN UP MINIMUM OF 2-DAYS PRIOR TO EVENT IS ESSENTIAL (we need to confirm attendee names and numbers with the venue in advance) ***
Rare Earth elements are an important building block of the energy transition. However, they are also inherently energy intensive to extract. How can we capitalise on the economic opportunity rare earth mining represents for Australia, whilst ensuring we source the energy for their extraction in a sustainable way?
Arafura Rare Earths is the owner of the Nolans Project, a Rare Earths project in the Northern Territory which aims to begin construction this year. Arafura have recently released their GHG Emissions Reduction Pathway for the Project which outlines how they intend to achieve net zero by 2050 for all stationary power (over 85% of the Project’s forecast total emissions).
In this presentation Michael Robinson, ESG Manager for Arafura Rare Earths, and Max van Someren, who led the development of Arafura’s net zero pathway, will explain:
- Why it’s important to Arafura to have a planned pathway to achieve net zero
- How competing options for delivering emissions reduction were evaluated
- What emissions reduction technologies were included in the final pathway
- Next steps in implementing the pathway
The presentation will be followed by a chance for Q&A with Max (and possibly some other members of the Arafura team as well).
