What we’re about

Shut Up & Write! is a global community that empowers writers to overcome procrastination, silence their inner critic, and make consistent progress on their projects. Our events provide a structured and focused environment where writers can come together, set aside distractions, and achieve their writing goals.

What to Expect
Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, a period of focused writing, and a final check-in to share our progress. Once you arrive, our host will lead introductions, and then everyone will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, we’ll have an optional time to chat and get to know each other. Our events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

Welcome everyone! A sedulite is a person who prizes diligence, perseverance, and assiduity.

Follow-up on how you did after your writing session via the event page comment section is always encouraged.

If you sign up and realize you won't be able to make it, it's helpful to amend your RSVP to "Not Going" status. Thank you!

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, zine, resume, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE:
6:30 pm (zoom meeting starts) - we go around and give quick intros, what we plan to work on.
6:45 pm (time varies by size of attendance) - time to "shut up and write" for the remaining time.
8:30 pm Join the closing check-out session, or just keep writing. Take satisfaction in having done some writing tonight!

Marathon (3-4hrs) Summer-Fall Writing Sessions [The Trout Farm]

Feeling like a fish out of water? Come and get your trout on at one of our Summer-Fall marathon writing sessions. Join us for the first 2 hour writing blast, or dive deep and stay until the tail end.

Do you sometimes find that after an hour or two you are just warming up, or have a deep topic that requires time to get into the flow? Or, you just want to connect with fellow writers at an o-fishal writing event? Join us this Tuesday!

Check out our newest venue at the renovated and, well, positively swanky Trout Farm near Felton.

— Lovely walks nearby for before or after, such as Quail Hollow, Loch Lomond, Henry Cowell virgin redwood loop (and Bigfoot museum!)

Approximate Schedule:

1:00 — 1:15 — Check in with group — what is today's goal?

1:15 —> Write like a trout, leaping upstream. Write like a salmon in the wind!

~3pm — Have a fish taco, or one of the other Happy Hour specials (To see a photo of their Happy Hour menu, click here).

4:45 — Wrap up, feedback, next steps…

5pm — Well, it is Trout Farm Happy Hour. Stay for a drink, people watch, go for a short hike, or generally move along.
