**The creative practice of writing thought experiments gives you the opportunity to:** * investigate ideas (old and new) * work your imagination * write creatively and playfully * produce compelling conversation starters that you can share with friends and strangers to provoke great discussions Over the past 3 years, I've written over 200 thought experiments and learned a lot along the way. He has over 20 years experience focussed on Software Engineering, Developer Experience and Transformational Platform Engineering, across Fortune 500 companies and FinTechs. **Talk 2: Narrative Engineering: What Cognitive Science Actually Tells Us About Building with LLMs** (Sal Kimmich, Security Architect at Gadfly AI) We keep treating LLMs like search engines that hallucinate. That is the wrong category, and it produces the wrong engineering. LLMs are narrative generators. They do not retrieve facts or execute logic. They complete stories. That distinction is not philosophical. It determines what kind of system you can build with them and what kind you cannot. Neuroscience has been studying probabilistic, distributed, narrative-generating systems for decades. Most of the LLM engineering field is ignoring that work. This talk walks through cyberneutics, an open source methodology and repository built on the premise that we need a new engineering discipline for narrative computing the way software engineering emerged from symbolic computing. The theoretical foundations come from second-order cybernetics, distributed cognition, and Minsky's Society of Mind. The empirical validation comes from 2025 mechanistic interpretability research showing that reasoning models internally simulate multi-agent dialogue to reason better. The practical techniques come from iterative practice: adversarial committees, pipeline algebra with formal quality propagation, observer-aware interaction design. Three real lessons for practitioners building agentic systems: reliability is a property of the pipeline, not the prompt; repetition is latent space exploration, not failure; and if you want auditable AI reasoning, you need to externalise the dialogue structure, because the transcript is the explainability artifact. The discipline does not exist yet. Depart UK 13 May 2026 **Day 1 - 14 May - Welcome to Shanghai** Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in which will be from 2pm. Today is an arrival day so there are no planned activities. A dinner will be arranged for the evening and on the way, you can stop to visit The Bund, Shanghai’s most famous waterfront destination, which looks very impressive at night. **Day 2 – Shanghai Sightseeing** After breakfast you will begin your day of sightseeing in Shanghai. During your tour, you will visit the Jade Buddha Temple, built between 1918 and 1928 and home to a beautiful Buddha carved from pure jade. You will also visit the Old Town and the classical Yuyuan Garden before having some free time to wander the street stalls and shops nearby. **Day 3 – Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town** After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Zhujiajiao for a day trip to visit the beautiful ancient water town. Take a walking tour over the picturesque bridges and canals that were formed 1700 years ago, as well as visiting the ancient post office. In the afternoon you will be taken back to Shanghai where you will have the evening at your leisure. **Day 4 – Shanghai / Chengdu** Today you will be transferred to Shanghai Airport for a domestic flight to Chengdu. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. In the afternoon, you will visit the People’s Park, an interesting Chinese park with typical tea houses and lots of locals, as well as taking a walk down Jinli Walking Street, lined with traditional wooden buildings and Chinese lanterns. **Day 5 – Chengdu & Pandas** This morning we will be travelling to Chengdu’s Giant Panda Breeding & Research Centre to see the many adorable pandas that live there. Founded in 1985, the centre is now home to 50 giant pandas! In the afternoon, we’ll visit the Wenshu Monastery, a large Buddhist monastery rebuilt during the Qing dynasty in 1697. **Day 6 – Xian City Walls** After breakfast, we’ll be taking a high-speed train from Chengdu to Xian Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred to your hotel and then we’ll head out for a visit of the stunning Xian City Wall. Also known as the ‘fortifications of Xian’, it is one of the largest and best-preserved walls in China. You will have some free time here and can cycle along the wall if you wish. Chinese dumpling meal in the evening. **Day 7 – Terracotta Warriors** After breakfast, visit the UNESCO world heritage site of the Terracotta Warriors Museum to see the thousands of terracotta army sculptures, created to protect the First Emperor of China in his afterlife. You will also visit the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (courtyard only – you can buy tickets to climb up the pagoda on site). In the evening, you will have the option to go to a Tang Dynasty Show. **Day 8 – Beijing-Temple of Heaven** Today you will be transferred to the train station to catch another high-speed train to Beijing. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for check-in. In the afternoon we’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, constructed in the 1400’s and used by emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties for prayer. **Day 9 – Beijing -The Great Wall** After breakfast, we will be driving for around 2-hours until we reach one of the world’s seven wonders; The Great Wall of China. We will visit the Badaling section of the wall (cable car not included), and you will have around 2 and a half hours to explore this stunning structure. Afterwards, you’ll be transferred back to Beijing, and in the evening will have the option of seeing the Beijing Opera. **Day 10 – Beijing** Today you will be exploring Beijing. You will visit Tiananmen Square, a site of great cultural significance to China and home of the Chairman Mao Memorial Hall. Next, you will enter the Forbidden City, home to many Chinese emperors dating back almost 500 years. The last stop on today’s tour will be at the UNESCO world heritage site, the Summer Palace, a large ensemble of lakes, gardens and palaces. **Day 11-** **Beijing Free day** **Day 12 –25 May 2026-Depart Beijing** Transfer to Beijing Airport for international flights. **London Bridge – poor health, bad debts but a Grade I pub at the end** This walk is presented by Central London Humanists and led by volunteer Robert Hall. Humanists believe we have just one life to be lived rationally and well, with compassion for others. This event is a guided walk of +/- 2.25 hours pointing out places of interest. We will be walking 3.5 Km / 2.2 miles. This walk is a companion to the walk we did from Borough station almost exactly a year ago and there is a slight overlap. Amongst highlights we see a former church that is now being put to better use, view a building containing an operating theatre dating from 1822, a rather more modern hospital, the site of a debtors prison and a rather puzzling statue of Alfred the Great. We’ll also meet Henry (no – not the vacuum cleaner!). **Date:** Saturday 16th May 2026 **Time:** 2 pm with a prompt departure at 2.15 pm **Place:** Toilets at London Bridge Mainline station. Customer identity resolution becomes increasingly complex as organizations scale across multiple systems, regions, and data formats. Traditional rule-based approaches often fail to keep up with data variability, require constant manual tuning, and struggle with real-time processing needs. This session presents a practical approach to building a scalable identity resolution pipeline using AWS services and modern AI techniques. The architecture combines data ingestion through Amazon S3 and AWS Glue, transformation pipelines using Spark on EMR, and machine learning models deployed via SageMaker for entity matching and standardization. Graph-based relationship modeling is implemented using Amazon Neptune to improve resolution accuracy by incorporating household and shared attribute context. We will walk through how machine learning models can be used for name and address normalization, how intelligent blocking strategies improve matching efficiency, and how feedback loops can be introduced to continuously improve accuracy.
