Meetup #16 Reimagining Software Development With AI
Shaping our future with AI. Creating opportunity through AI fluency, connection and community.
No jargon. No hype. No confusing terminology.
NOTE: This event will be focussed on the changing shape of software development. Everyone is welcome to attend but the content will be somewhat technical.
**Join us for our next in-person meetup in London on Thursday May 14th.**
Our theme for this meetup is **Reimagining Software Development with AI.** We're going to take a step back and think about the role we, the humans, play in the software development process now that coding agents have arrived.
This event provides a small glimpse of the future, from the innovators who are challenging everything and rebuilding the process of software development from the ground up, with humans at the centre!
**Where and When?**
* Thursday, May 14th
* Doors open at 18:00
* Talks start at 19:00
* AutogenAI, 123 Pentonville Rd, London N1 9LG
**Talk 1: The Validation Gap: We Need A Better Way To Review AI Generated Code** (Robert Werner, Co-Founder & CTO Leapter)
AI coding is fast. We're generating more code than ever. But more code means more code to verify, and agentic workflows are scaling that gap faster than review processes can keep up.
The bottleneck didn't disappear. It moved from writing code to verifying logic.
For most generated code, you can ship, test, and iterate. But what if we need to be sure? What about the code that runs our financial systems or decides if you qualify for a loan? It has to be right.
Hope is not a strategy, we need to better ways to review code. In this talk Robert will share his recent innovations, experiments and insights with you.
**About Robert:**
Robert Werner is the CTO of an AI startup dedicated to shaping the future of AI-native software development. He has over 20 years experience focussed on Software Engineering, Developer Experience and Transformational Platform Engineering, across Fortune 500 companies and FinTechs.
**Talk 2: Narrative Engineering: What Cognitive Science Actually Tells Us About Building with LLMs** (Sal Kimmich, Security Architect at Gadfly AI)
We keep treating LLMs like search engines that hallucinate. That is the wrong category, and it produces the wrong engineering.
LLMs are narrative generators. They do not retrieve facts or execute logic. They complete stories. That distinction is not philosophical. It determines what kind of system you can build with them and what kind you cannot. Neuroscience has been studying probabilistic, distributed, narrative-generating systems for decades. Most of the LLM engineering field is ignoring that work.
This talk walks through cyberneutics, an open source methodology and repository built on the premise that we need a new engineering discipline for narrative computing the way software engineering emerged from symbolic computing. The theoretical foundations come from second-order cybernetics, distributed cognition, and Minsky's Society of Mind. The empirical validation comes from 2025 mechanistic interpretability research showing that reasoning models internally simulate multi-agent dialogue to reason better. The practical techniques come from iterative practice: adversarial committees, pipeline algebra with formal quality propagation, observer-aware interaction design.
Three real lessons for practitioners building agentic systems: reliability is a property of the pipeline, not the prompt; repetition is latent space exploration, not failure; and if you want auditable AI reasoning, you need to externalise the dialogue structure, because the transcript is the explainability artifact.
The discipline does not exist yet. This is what building it looks like.
**About Sal:** Sal is a developer advocate for open source and passionate about helping engineers, ethical hackers and digital enthusiasts understand the complexity of modern software development. With over a decade of experience as building cloud-native machine learning pipelines in the healthcare and tech for good sectors, their work is now focused on filling the cracks in the open source software supply chain to build a better digital future for all of us.

**KEY PROJECT: TRADITIONALLY STITCHED AND SEWN EDGED FOOTSTOOL**
*All of our upholstery classes are for absolute beginners. It doesn’t matter which one you choose to take first. Each technique that is offered is part of all the processes that every upholsterer has to learn.*
6-week workshop. Thursday nights. 6:30pm – 9pm.
A perfect course for a beginner. Jumpstart your knowledge of traditional upholstery skills and methods.
Over six Thursday evenings, experienced upholsterers will guide you through the wonderful world of upholstery and help you build a fabulous footstool using traditional methods. You can leave your project at the centre in between classes.
Before the advent of foam in the middle of the twentieth century, the only way to make wooden seats more comfortable was to build up layers using available materials. Our small fabric footstool (above) is built from layers of woven webbing, hessian, vegetable fibre, animal hair and calico and is sewn with specialist needles and stitches. Although this method is more labour-intensive than the modern method of using foam, it is much longer lasting and preferred in more expensive pieces of furniture. This is the method used in many traditional chair seats, so once learned, you can apply this method to your own projects.
We provide everything for the workshop, from the wood frame to the set of natural beech wood legs that are included for you to paint or stain as you wish. Choose from our selection of top fabrics, or bring your own. You will need about a metre of fabric and you will not need it until the final class. The use of all tools and materials is included. We also have a selection of specialist upholstery tools and all the materials that we use in our workshops for sale at the Goodlife Centre for you to continue your new hobby at home.
Beginners welcome.
This course is run on a Thursday evening over 6 consecutive weeks. 6:30pm – 9:00pm
SOLD OUT • 2ND THOUGHT EXPERIMENT WRITING WORKSHOP: cultivate curiosity :-)
**The creative practice of writing thought experiments gives you the opportunity to:**
* investigate ideas (old and new)
* work your imagination
* write creatively and playfully
* produce compelling conversation starters that you can share with friends and strangers to provoke great discussions
Over the past 3 years, I've written over 200 thought experiments and learned a lot along the way. [Here's a bit more about why I enjoy the practice.](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/writing-thought-experiments)
**In this workshop,** I'll share my process and together we'll create new thought experiments by:
* Identifying areas of interest
* Gathering ingredients for thought experiments
* Imagining scenarios
* Constructing narratives
* Generating relevant, thought provoking questions
* Participating in a round of small group discussions - you can volunteer your new thought experiment, or if you'd rather, you can pick one out of the hat.
**By the end of the evening** **we'll have**
* had some thought provoking conversations
* become familiar with a new method for creative thinking
* written our own original material for future group discussions :-)
Although we’ll be learning a new technique we'll also be aiming to have **an enjoyable evening, with good humour and fun**. This will be less like school and more like a fun TEiP night out with an additional creative twist.
**Who should come:**
Everyone! We believe that the more perspectives, the richer the conversation. This group is not about being experts, it is about thinking creatively together and learning new ways to develop and communicate ideas.
**Tickets**
Space is limited (15-20) people and tickets are £15.
I'd like to make this event accessible, so if cost is a barrier, please send me a DM.
**Where we'll meet:**
The Fitzroy Tavern in Fitzrovia. The nearest Tube stations are Goodge Street and Tottenham Court Road. We'll be upstairs in the Private Dining Room.
Looking forward to meeting & talking with you!

Inner Critic Reset in the Park — Mindfulness, Self Compassion & Connection
The sun is out, the evenings are longer, and we thought what better way to spend a May evening than slowing down together in one of London's most beautiful parks.
> This is a small, gentle outdoor workshop where we'll explore the inner critic. That voice that tells you you're not enough, not doing enough, not where you should be. Through a mix of mindfulness exercises, self compassion practice, and real conversation, we'll spend the evening reconnecting with ourselves and each other.
> You don't need any experience with meditation or mindfulness. Just bring yourself, maybe a blanket to sit on, and an open mind.
> This is for you if:
> You tend to be your own harshest critic. You feel like you're always running but never arriving. You want to meet genuine people in a meaningful way. You just need an evening to breathe.
> 📍 Regent's Park, London (exact meeting point shared before the event)
> 📅 Saturday 16 May 2026
> ⏰ 6PM - 8PM
> 💷 £10
> 🌿 Outdoors, weather permitting
> Brought to you by Idil and Shipra. We're passionate about mindfulness, self compassion, and creating spaces where people can be real with each other.
> Places are limited to keep it intimate. Grab your spot and we'll see you in the park 🤍
The Spawn London (Beginner Friendly Game) - Social Deduction on a Cosmic Scale
"Humanity's insatiable appetite to colonise reached far into the stars, but they learned the hard way that some stones should remain unturned. Whilst aggressively terraforming Spawn home worlds, humanity stirred the ancient species out of their slumber and incurred their rage in a cataclysmic event.
Now conflict dances across the cosmos as the Spawn seek violent retribution by assimilating themselves among humanity and destroying them from within. Humanity’s only hope of survival is to detect the Spawn among them and destroy the threat."
The Spawn is a large-scale elimination-based social deduction game where humanity must root out the Spawn which have infiltrated their ranks or be overpowered by them. Strategic gameplay, social subterfuge and gripping sci-fi all in one immersive experience.

COUNT monthly event: Kitchen service at Van Buren Center's shelter
Come assist Van Buren Shelter (https://ymcacolumbus.org/locations/vanburen) staff in serving dinners and cleaning up on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Dinner for the women is 5-6 pm and for the families is 6:15-7:15 pm. There is ample free parking available in the shelter's lot. The recommended area to park is in green in the image above.
There will be a new entrance for the time being. We are asking all volunteers to enter through the Donation Dock door, the orange mark on the image above. This door is located between the Single Adults and Family Shelter. You will see 2 large garage doors with a large green trash compactor in the center. Please head to the closest garage door to the building wall, with a ramp leading up. There, you will see a door with a sign stating instructions on how to enter the building. Please ring the doorbell, and a staff member will come and escort you into the building. If a staff member takes longer than 5 minutes, please call the front desk at 614-689-2020. This is a new process for us, and we do not want to keep you waiting! We appreciate your patience as we navigate this temporary change.
The shelter needs a volunteer count the day before the event so sign-up ends Monday at 4:50 PM. Afterwards some of us go to the Omnipresent Atheists Weekly Meetup in progress to have a bit to eat or drink (http://www.meetup.com/omnipresentatheists/).
Volunteers must be 14 or older. Since we will be working around families, the YMCA does not permit volunteering by individuals with convictions for violent or sexual crimes. The YMCA reserves the right to run background checks on volunteers.
For questions, comment on this page or contact: Andrew, awhit12@yahoo.com, (614)937-5802 (cell). Please let Andrew know if you volunteer anytime other than our COUNT events so that he can count your hours toward our service record.
