Deep Dive into Pranayama, Breathwork and Qigong (Senior Teacher Sarah Manning)
Deep Dive into Pranayama, Breathwork and Qigong (Senior Teacher Sarah Manning)
Special workshop by Senior Yoga Teacher Sarah Manning In a world where we are constantly “on,” moving from one task to the next, many of us are running on empty without realising it. This immersive workshop is designed for students who want to deeply understand their vitality, energy, and nervous system — and learn how to consciously work with them. If you: * Feel like you are fire-fighting all day, surviving one drama after another * Experience fatigue, sleep challenges, anxiety, digestive issues, chronic pain, skin concerns, or autoimmune imbalances — but have no time for self-care * Are navigating perimenopause and hormonal shifts * Feel confused by conflicting health advice and “vague” or intermittent symptoms This session offers clarity and embodied tools. Drawing from over 30 years of study and practice, Sarah will open the door to her personal practice and guide you through the foundations of pranayama and Qigong. You will learn how to: ✨ Down-regulate your nervous system through conscious breath ✨ Support hormonal balance through specific breath patterns ✨ Improve energy circulation and resilience ✨ Integrate breath and subtle energy awareness into your daily yoga practice ✨ Move from survival mode into grounded vitality This is not just about breathing techniques — it is about reclaiming your inner rhythm and restoring your body’s natural intelligence. All levels are welcome. Whether you are refining your practice, reconnecting with your body, or simply seeking calm and clarity, this workshop will meet you where you are. Let’s greet the morning with strength, alignment, and awakened energy. 🌞 📍 Location: Botanic Gardens (Eco Lake) 🧘 Bring: Yoga mat + meditation cushion/stool \- $50/pax or $90 for 2pax Signup here: https://www.eventbrite.sg/e/deep-dive-into-pranayama-breathwork-and-qigong-by-sarah-manning-tickets-1986761759906 ⸻ 🌿 About Sarah Manning Senior Yoga & Qigong Specialist Sarah Manning is a seasoned senior yoga instructor with over 25 years of international teaching experience in Singapore, Australia, and China. [Hiking Series] M'sia - Bukit Kutu (1,053m): Fun day hike with great views!
[Hiking Series] M'sia - Bukit Kutu (1,053m): Fun day hike with great views!
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! Permits are hard to obtain so we'll have a cutoff date, so first come first serve!\**** Bukit Kutu (1,053m) is one an extremely popular hike just further north (1.5h) of Kuala Lumpur at Kuala Kubu Bharu, famous for waterfalls and getaways for the city hustlers of KL. Bukit Kutu is also known as Treacher Hill and was a former hill station during colonial times. The summit offers great views of the surrounding region and is very similar to Gunung Datuk, where the summit is on top of boulders. The hike itself is not technically very difficult and is slightly longer than Datuk but quite similar, do expect your shoes to be wet due to the river/stream crossings! We're looking to do a good day hike and aim to go back to Singapore by Saturday night. **Hike Description** There are some river/stream crossings at the start. The total duration is \~6h of hiking and \~12km in total, with around 800m in elevation gain. Do note that there are no toilets or wash up area at the start of the trail/end of the trail! So please clean up before getting on the bus and we will head to the R&R. **We are aiming to do this in 1 day and be back in SG by Sat night, so this will be a fuss-free hike only itinerary! The focus is on hiking at a good pace!** **Who is this for?** => People who wish to hike similar to Gunung Datuk/Angsi but not too challenging => Wish to do a decent full day hike => Wish to enjoy somewhat decent weather while hiking => Looking for a fuss free hike only itinerary, go for a solid hike in Malaysia and back to SG to sleep It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking especially if you have done Gunung Datuk and is aiming for something similar. Most do it as training for other treks, like Kinabalu, or Nepal. Do note that we are looking to start early and descend by around 4-5pm, so we will have cut-off time. Prepare your own meals also! ***How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?*** The trek is around 6h, but can be 4h or less if you are faster. This is slightly longer than Datuk, and easier than Ophir, and the terrain is similar to most Malaysia hikes. It is generally tropical forest trail, with river/stream crossings, steep parts and ladders near the summit. **Minimum pax** Minimum 12 to start the trip! Once confirmed, a Whatsapp group will be set up and info-kit sent out. Estimated Itinerary: **\*Timings to be confirmed\*** \~10.30 pm : Meet @ Marsiling MRT 7:30am: Stop by for breakfast before reaching start point for Bukit Kutu 8.00 am : Start Hike 11.30am : Reach Bukit Kutu summit (have your own packed lunch) 12.30 pm : Descend 4.00 pm : Reach back base and depart for SG (dinner along the way) 11.30 pm++ : Back in SG ***Itinerary is subject to changes based on conditions and group speed and trek leader's discretion. Please expect that you will reach back SG past midnight!*** Price: **$ 150 SGD per pax** Price includes: 2-ways Transport Guides All associated Park Permits/ Fees LMT Trip Leader Price excludes: All Personal expenses/Meals Visa Application (if any) This event is organized by LITTLE MONSTERS TRAVEL PTE LTD Travel Agent Licence No: 03117 Contact : +65 88842635 Email: info@littlemonsterstravel.net Some additional questions: 1. How long is the ride to Bukit Kutu A: It can take 7-9h from Singapore 2. Why are we not staying overnight? A: This is so that we can save money on accommodation/driver cost. Also, we wish to be able to spend Sunday with family/friends/sleeping in Singapore, so we decided to spend Sat night travelling back than Sunday instead. 3. Are there shower or toilet facilities at the trail? A: There isn't, so this means bring your own wipes and toilets are all "natural". Don't worry we will stop by toilets before and after the hike. 4. What do I have to look out for? A: Trees, Logs, leeches sometimes, depends on the weather. Also, make sure to have firm footing and go steadily during the river crossings! 5. Where are the meals (breakfast/lunch/dinner?) We might stop by breakfast if there is enough time, if not it'll be at the R&R. Lunch is packed by yourself/on the go during the hike. Dinner might be a quick one at the R&R when we wash up, but if everyone is fast we can have a good dinner!

Practical Philosophy Meetup - Singapore 🇸🇬
Practical Philosophy Meetup - Singapore 🇸🇬
🏛️ **WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?** Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no ‘official’ philosophy knowledge required! 😎 Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic. The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community 🙌 📓 **HOW DOES IT WORK?** Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LB5EKxC9JsN7S1wVok3vXe?mode=gi_t), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going. When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, it’s important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture. **General Meeting Agenda** Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline: * 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the ‘official' start. * 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines. * 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the ‘jump-off’ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. It’s not obligatory to answer them. * 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo. * 21:00 - The official meeting is over but it’s a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other. **🧧PRICING?** Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though! 💛 WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY 🗣 “I feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting what’s right and wrong” - Ekam 🗣 “I got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.” - Daniel **🤓 FAQ** * What will we talk about? What's the topic? The topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you don’t see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LB5EKxC9JsN7S1wVok3vXe?mode=gi_t). * Do I need to study or read anything to attend? No preparation is necessary. This isn’t a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and we’ll discuss it, but it's not required. * Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on? The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school. * Is it mostly men that attend? Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we don’t meet in any dark rooms. * Can I come alone? Of course you can, we encourage it :) * Can I be late? Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation. * Where do you meet? The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LB5EKxC9JsN7S1wVok3vXe?mode=gi_t) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/). **PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY - Making Philosophy Available To All.** ✨ Practical Philosophy hosts weekly, in-person meetups in over 20 countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! 🗺️ \*\*\* Join our [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/LB5EKxC9JsN7S1wVok3vXe?mode=gi_t) 👈 Follow us on [Instagram](www.instagram.com/practicalphilosophyclub/) 👈 Our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/) 👈

Mindful Photography Walk – A Gentle Pause in Nature
Mindful Photography Walk – A Gentle Pause in Nature
Join me for a small, mindful photography walk in nature. (**NOTE Time is 9:00 AM EST(Meetup is having technical Issue))** This is a slow, intentional gathering — not focused on fitness or perfect photography — but on simply pausing, observing, and being present. We’ll walk at a gentle pace, with moments of quiet, and a few light prompts to help you notice details you might normally miss. 📷 You don’t need any photography experience — a phone camera is enough. This is also not a business networking event. It’s a calm space to connect with nature and, if it feels natural, with like-minded people. 🌿 What to expect: • A slow-paced, relaxed walk • Moments of silence and observation • Simple reflection prompts 📍 Location: [ Red Trabue Nature Preserve] ⏱ Duration: \~60 minutes This is a small, initial gathering as I begin creating this space through WellGratiVibes — a blend of mindfulness, nature, and quiet connection. If this resonates with you, you’re welcome to join.

Duty vs. Results: What Makes an Action Moral?
Duty vs. Results: What Makes an Action Moral?
When judging morality, should we prioritize **intentions/duty** or **outcomes/results**? It introduces two influential philosophers as representatives of these approaches. * **Immanuel Kant (deontology):** An action is moral when it is done from **duty** and follows rational, universal principles (the **categorical imperative**). Certain acts—like lying—are wrong regardless of the consequences; you can’t do a wrong thing for a right reason. * **John Stuart Mill (utilitarian consequentialism):** The morality of an action is determined by its **effects**, specifically how much **happiness/well-being** it produces. Mill argues that some pleasures are “higher” than others, and that good intentions don’t redeem harmful outcomes. ## Discussion Questions 1. **The lying dilemma:** A murderer comes to your door and asks if your friend is hiding inside. Kant would say you must not lie. 2. **Can good intentions rescue a bad outcome?** 3. **The organ harvest problem:** A surgeon has five patients dying of organ failure and one healthy patient in for a checkup. Killing the one to harvest organs would save five lives, and the math works out for the utilitarian. Why does this feel so deeply wrong? Is that feeling a point in Kant's favor, or just a bias we should overcome? 4. **Do rules need exceptions?** Kant insists moral rules must be universal, with no exceptions. But most of us can imagine extreme scenarios where any rule seems like it should bend. Does the need for exceptions fatally undermine deontology, or is the strength of the system precisely that it refuses to bend? 5. **Who gets to calculate the consequences?** Utilitarianism asks us to maximize good outcomes, but we're notoriously bad at predicting consequences. If we can't reliably know the results of our actions, is it practical to base our entire moral system on outcomes? Does this uncertainty push us back toward rules and principles? 6. **Everyday morality:** Think about a real moral decision you've made recently, even a small one. Did you reason more like a Kantian (what's the right thing to do in principle?) or more like a utilitarian (what will produce the best result?)? Do most people naturally lean one way? 7. **Justice vs. the greater good:** A town can prevent a deadly plague by sacrificing one innocent person. The greater good is clearly served. But is it just? Can an action be morally right and deeply unjust at the same time? 8. **The big synthesis question:** Are these two systems actually opposed, or do they often arrive at the same answers by different paths? Is it possible that we need both: rules to guide us in the moment and consequences to evaluate systems and policies over time?
