Speak Out at the Iowa City Council Meeting

Details

Hi everyone, You may have heard that the Cedar Rapids Council is considering passing a retail ban on pets within the city - great news! Here in Iowa City some of us have been increasing the pressure on our own city government to consider a similar ordinance. Let's make our intentions known by speaking out in favor of such a ban in Iowa City!

There are 2 options:
(1) Attend the City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 7th at 7pm and go up to speak during the Public Comments period (usually occurs within the first 10 minutes of the meeting). I plan to speak for the allotted 3 minutes, and hope others will join me. You can speak from the heart, or write a statement ahead of time and read it at the podium. The Council is very open to this form of communication, and what you say matters! It would be great to have multiple people stand up at the meeting and speak out against commercial puppy stores and puppy/kitty mills. Below are some resources to help you craft your statement:

(2) Send a letter to the City Council at council@iowa-city.org. They include all letters in their session agendas, and do discuss them during their work sessions. You can also both send a letter and make a comment at the meeting in person!

Hope to see some of you there on May 7th at 7pm.
