A Grateful Dead Music Video Night
Details
On Saturday, January 24th, beginning at 7:00 PM, you are invited to gather at Dahvid’s home for an evening with the music of The Grateful Dead. We will be watching and listening to some selected music videos to celebrate their music, and the spirit of what they brought into the world.
For many who have followed the music of the Dead over the years, this music has often been experienced from a spiritual or mystical perspective. As the song Terrapin Station reminds us:
“Inspiration, move me brightly
Light the song with sense and color
Hold away despair.”
As the music plays, inspiration may move us to create our own expression through drumming, singing, or dancing along with the music…or to listen with quiet appreciation.
Those attending are invited to bring a Grateful Dead–related video to share, though this is not necessary, as there will be a deep well of material ready to go. The night may include recordings from the Jerry Garcia era, later constellations, such as Dead & Company, and times where Dead members are playing with other musicians.
We may start with a selection from the 1977 Grateful Dead movie, along with footage from the 2015 Chicago Fare Thee Well comeback concerts with Trey Anastasio of Phish playing lead guitar.
With Bob Weir’s passing (after I scheduled this event), the name—The Grateful Dead—becomes a living metaphor, as it did with the passing of Jerry and Phil.
“Wake up to discover
You are the song that the morning brings”
You are welcome to bring a drum, another musical instrument, and a snack to share.
Location will be sent to those who sign up. The number of persons who sign up through Meetup may not reflect the actual number of attendees, as word of mouth and other social media sites will be used to spread the word.
