Many tech companies use deadlines and high pressure tactics to get engineering teams to move fast and get things done. I’ve felt that pressure as an individual contributor and I learned to use them myself at times as a leader. I’ve also been the culprit of the opposite of the spectrum. It’s taken me years of mistakes and working with other great leaders and mentors to settle into my own style of leadership. It’s not entirely unique, but hopefully it provides helpful insights to enhance ways of thinking about high impact engineering culture.
