About us

Systems thinking applied to self-knowledge.

Engineering the Self is a meetup for people interested in understanding themselves with the same curiosity and rigor we use to understand complex systems.

We explore the mind, behavior, identity, emotions, relationships, habits, motivation, and personal change as interconnected systems rather than isolated problems.

The goal isn’t optimization for its own sake. It’s to build better models of ourselves: identifying patterns, feedback loops, constraints, adaptations, and the forces that shape how we think, act and be.

Topics may include:

How identity shapes behavior
Nervous-system regulation and adaptation
Feedback loops in habits and relationships
Internal conflicts and competing goals
Self-awareness and metacognition
Behavioral change and psychological development
Mental models for understanding yourself
What it actually means to consciously change

It’s a space for thoughtful conversation, experimentation, and people who enjoy going beneath surface-level explanations.

It is systems engineering, but the system is you.
