What we’re about

About this meetup
English Social Lab is an online English conversation meetup for expats and locals who want to improve their English in a relaxed, social, and fun way.
This is not a lesson and not a traditional English class.
There is no grammar teaching, no homework, and no exams.
Instead, we practice English through:

  • interactive games
  • quizzes
  • word and guessing activities
    small-group discussions
  • light role-play situations

Each session is gently moderated by an experienced English teacher who helps guide the activities, encourages everyone to speak, and offers support whenever needed—without interrupting or correcting every small mistake.

### Format

  • Online (Zoom / Google Meet)
  • Once per week
  • 50 minutes per session
  • Small groups (max. 8 participants)

### 👥 Who is this for?

  • Expats living in Ireland or abroad
  • Locals who want to practice spoken English
People who understand English but want to speak more confidently
  • Anyone who prefers games and conversation over classrooms

### 📈 Level

Intermediate and above.
You don’t need perfect English — just a willingness to speak and participate.

# 📜 Group Rules (Please Read)

These rules are here to keep sessions fun, respectful, and effective for everyone.

### 1️⃣ This is not a lesson

  • No grammar explanations or long corrections
  • Mistakes are normal and welcome
  • Fluency and communication matter more than accuracy

### 2️⃣ Participation is important

  • Please be ready to speak and join activities
  • Listening only is not the goal of this group

### 3️⃣ Camera on (whenever possible)

  • Seeing faces helps conversation and group connection
  • If you need to turn it off temporarily, that’s okay

### 4️⃣ Be respectful and supportive

  • No interrupting or correcting others
  • No political, offensive, or discriminatory language
  • Encourage others to speak

### 5️⃣ Arrive on time

  • Sessions start and end on time
  • Late arrivals disrupt group activities

### 6️⃣ English only during the session

  • This helps everyone practice equally
  • It’s okay to ask for help if you don’t know a word

### 7️⃣ Group size is limited

  • Maximum 8 participants per session
  • This ensures enough speaking time for everyone

### 8️⃣ Teacher moderation

  • The moderator guides the session and may:
    • change activities
    • gently reformulate sentences for clarity

This keeps the session smooth and enjoyable.

### 9️⃣ Community spirit

  • This is a friendly, international space
  • Networking, laughter, and cultural exchange are encouraged
