• Building an analytics platform for the energy system of the future
  Milo van Holstein from Groendus
  Groendus develops products and services that enable companies to move to 100% clean energy. Milo will share his experiences in building an analytics platform for a proposition that was yet to be fully defined, whilst integrating 8 different companies in a scale-up environment. He will discuss the make-or-buy choice for their forecasting building blocks and the trade-off between planning, flexibility, and speed.
• Balancing the electrical grid with probabilistic time series forecasting
  Tom Lemmens from Dexter Energy
  Dexter Energy leverages machine learning to facilitate the transition to renewable energy. The rapid growth of non-steerable and intermittent wind and solar power requires accurate forecasts and the ability to plan under uncertainty. Tom will discuss why to consider probabilistic instead of deterministic forecasts for this use case. We will cover methods for creating and evaluating probabilistic time series forecasts, and discuss how probabilistic price and wind power forecasts can be combined to derive optimal short-term power trading strategies.
