Meal FAQs

Why do I need to pay a deposit?

I take a deposit because without doing so, there are high numbers of last minute drop outs and no shows, which isn’t fair on me, the other attendees, or the restaurant.
If 1 month’s notice is given, I will refund your deposit if your place can be filled.
Whilst I understand that plans can change and emergencies crop up, in the event that you do not attend, the deposit is given to the restaurant as a tip, or put towards the Meetup monthly subscription cost. Some restaurants will charge per head for a reduction in numbers which is why some deposits are higher than others.
Upon attendance, the deposit is deducted from your bill.

Do we split the bill?

No - unless otherwise stated, each person pays for what they’ve had. A tip is often included on the bill and the expectation is that you pay this too unless otherwise agreed as a group. Your deposit is then deducted from this amount.
If you would like help with calculating your total you can ask me to help you at the time, or in advance by message if you prefer.

How will I find you?

The table will be booked under my name, Kim Smith.
If you feel nervous beforehand please let me know and I am happy to arrange to meet you outside if you prefer.

What if I am running late?

We tend to go ahead and order 15 minutes after the time of the table booking if there are attendees running late. If safe to do so, please message me on Meetup to let me know if you are running late.

Does everyone already know each other?

My events are usually a mixture of regulars and newcomers. Sometimes I’ve met everyone at least once. Sometimes I’m meeting you all for the first time.

I’m nervous about coming. Will I be made to feel comfortable?

Yes! We’ve all been there. I will look out for you, introduce myself as the host, introduce everyone at the table, and help get conversations going.

Any other questions?

Feel free to message me or leave a comment on the event if you have any other questions.
