Many people believe they can’t meditate: “My mind is too busy,” “I can’t sit still,” or “I’m just not the type.” These are understandable concerns, especially in a society that values action and quick sound bites, and that rarely invites us to pause. But meditation isn’t about achieving perfect stillness or silencing every thought. It’s about meeting yourself where you are, with curiosity and compassion. This class offers a gentle entry point for anyone who’s ever felt unsure, impatient, or intimidated by the idea of meditation.
Meditation offers more than just a moment of calm—it’s a pathway to greater clarity, attentional stability, and inner connection. Regular practice can reduce stress, enhance focus, deepen compassion, and help us navigate life’s complexities with greater ease. Introduction to Meditation is a gentle, experiential class designed to introduce participants to a variety of meditation styles, allowing each person to discover what resonates most deeply with their own inner wisdom.
Through guided practice, reflection, and discussion, participants will explore:
- Calm Abiding: Cultivating steady attention and mental clarity through observation of the breath, mind, or awareness. This practice supports attentional stability and concentration while fostering a tranquil, grounded sense of presence.
- Loving-Kindness (Metta): Nurturing connection through the heartfelt wish for happiness and the causes of happiness—for oneself and for others.
- Compassion Meditation: Cultivating the heartfelt wish to end suffering and the causes of suffering—for ourselves and all beings.
- Empathetic Joy: Celebrating the happiness and success of others, expanding the heart’s capacity for delight.
- Equanimity Practice: Opening the mind and heart to all beings and experiences—without clinging, aversion, or indifference. This practice fosters a spacious, balanced presence that remains engaged without being overwhelmed or withdrawn.
- Body Scan & Somatic Awareness: Deepening embodiment and relaxation by tuning into physical sensations.
- Visualization & Guided Imagery: Engaging the imagination to complement meditation sessions and augment calm, clarity, or insight.
- Contemplative Inquiry: Inviting inner wisdom through inquiry and reflective silence.
Each class includes a short talk, a guided meditation, and time for discussion or optional sharing.
You don’t need any experience—just a little curiosity and a willingness to pause.
