Introduction to Systems Theory: [02] Communication

Details

Niklas Luhmann's "Theorie sozialer System" (theory of social systems) is one of the groundbreaking works of the 20th century, covering a broad range of topics like art, public administratio or religion. His theory is able to explain all phenomena in the context of social systems/organizations. It really gets to the bottom of things and teaches us a new and often strange way to think/communicate.
This series of one hour sessions will introduce the key elements of said theory with a focus on their applicability in the context of organizational design/change.
Whether you work as a project manager, an agile coach or in any management position, knowledge of Lumann's theory will give you headstart in understanding systems and thusly in effectively changing systems.

Our second session will be about: Communication.
Agenda:

  • Wrap-up about systems from part one
  • Lumann's definition of communication
  • Key differences to other theories on communication
  • Practical implications of Lumann's definition

We will apply a healthy mix of theoretical input and collaborative tasks to get a good grasp of the topic at hand.
In case you missed the first session about systems, do not worry: we will have a brief synopsis of the key points.

Looking forward to seeing you!
