Details

We are excited to announce our next meetup on 11.6.2024. We will have Markus Winand present "Modern SQL: While you’ve looked elsewhere" and Thomas Schühly present "Server-side web applications with Spring and htmx".

We would like to thank Cloudflight Austria GmbH for being the host for this event.
Also, this time we have another JetBrains product license to give away during our event. Thanks to JetBrains for being a long-time supporter.

::Modern SQL: While you’ve looked elsewhere::

Markus Winand

While many hypes have come and gone, SQL has undergone a slow, silent but steady evolution. This year’s revision of the SQL standard even introduced graph query capabilities — but this will need some time to get broad adoption.

In this session we will focus on some modern SQL features that are readily available in a SQL database near to you. We will see real-world examples that make developer’s life easier and the applications go faster. Naturally we will also revisit some stubborn misconceptions about SQL that ultimately proof that today’s SQL is not your grandpa’s SQL anymore.

Spring is typically only used for JSON API backend development, while the web frontend is built with a JavaScript framework.

htmx enables us to create interactive web applications with server-side rendered templates without JavaScript.

In this talk, you will get an introduction to htmx and server-side rendering with Spring.

You will learn to use patterns you know and love from building backends to create a full-stack application with reusable components.

The Speakers

::Markus Winand::

As the SQL Renaissance Ambassador, it’s my mission to make developers aware of the evolution of SQL in the 21st century. My book “SQL Performance Explained” has been published in five languages and can be read online free of charge at use-the-index-luke.com. My next book is currently in the works and can already be read online as it’s being written (modern-sql.com). I am available as a trainer, speaker and consultant for all companies and developers interested in SQL. You’ll find more info at winand.at

::Thomas Schühly::

Thomas Schühly’s server-side rendering journey started as a developer trying to make life easier while developing his first bootstrapped product in his free time.

Creating Spring ViewComponent enabled him to be the youngest Speaker at the largest European Spring conference while also enabling him to build awesome software full-time with his open-source library.
