An Avenue for Change

In the summer of 2019, at a leadership training called 21Project, her group was commissioned to find a problem in their community and create a solution that was focused on neighborhoods, public schools, foster care, and/or the nation. It was here that the idea of Avenue941 was birthed. Avenue941 was developed as a way for churches to bring solutions to the neighborhoods and public school system.

Brenda Critchfield grew up in Manatee County and went to NC to pursue an English degree from Gardner-Webb University and went on to receive her MAT from UNC Charlotte. She began her teaching career in Charlotte and spent eight years there before moving back to Bradenton, where she began teaching at Lee Middle School in December 2015.

When COVID hit, Brenda connected with the School District of Manatee County to pilot a small group learning environment for online learners within a local church. Resonate Life Church hosted 12 e-learners from Lee Middle the spring semester of 2021 and every student who attended improved academically, behaviorally, socially and began going back to school. After this successful pilot, Brenda left the classroom to be part of the initiative and now has 8 ministry locations serving students from 27 different schools in Manatee County and over 70% of students are making gains in at least two of these areas: academics, behavior, confidence and spiritual growth.
