O: Red Rock Canyon Wildflower Hike

Moderately paced 2.5 mi, 500’ of gain. Discover the beauty of the Santa Monica Mountains with photographer and local wildflower expert James Kenney. Red Rock Canyon is a unique riparian canyon with fascinating sculptured rock formations in colors ranging from chalk white to deep red. In the spring, the park’s special rockland micro-habitats are alive with incredible wildflowers and fascinating plant communities. Meet 8:30am at Pacific Palisades rideshare point or 9am at the fee parking area just beyond the park entrance, which is 1.5 mi from the intersection of Old Topanga Canyon Road and Red Rock Road. Drive slowly and be careful on Red Rock Road because it becomes an unimproved, dirt road as it passes through the residential area on the way to the parking area. Bring water, lugsoles, hat, sunscreen. Rain cancels. (This hike will count toward the Environmental Awareness credit for prospective I-rated outings leaders.)

Leaders: David Haake, Cathy Froloff, Joan Schipper, and Melody Anderson

Hike is sponsored by the West Los Angeles Group of the Sierra Club. All SC rules apply. All participants need to sign a liability waiver.
