To address your curiosity about the book, it discusses the widespread misinformation and its impact on the environment and sustainability, particularly in the context of textile goods. As we all consume and generate large quantities of textile waste from birth to death, it is critical for us to understand the environmental impact of our actions. For instance, many of you may not be aware that textile goods placed in community bins or brought to charity groups for donations often end up being shipped to developing countries, where they are eventually disposed of. It is nonsensical to ship winter coats and sweaters from affluent regions across international oceans to warm countries near the equator, where people do not experience cold climates.
Furthermore, many people are unaware that textile goods contain harmful chemicals, which become significant threats to our sustainability when buried, incinerated, or carelessly placed alongside riverbanks and school grounds in many developing countries without any environmental control or risk assessment - If you are interested in these matters, it is not difficult to find video footages on various internet platforms, depicting such issues. This is particularly troubling not only because the waste pollutes both ground- and underground water, worsening the already critical water scarcity issues in the destination countries, but also the pollutants spread globally through air and water circulations, reaching us in a matter of days, weeks, or months. Thus, the typical NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) attitude of affluent regions does not work.
This book addresses many other important aspects related to our daily lives, such as making purchasing decisions for various textile goods and consuming them in certain ways. Gaining more practical knowledge on these matter will help you make more informed decisions in one of the closest items used in every minute of our lives. - * For your information, I have an educational background as a textile engineer and have been working in the industry for many years. Having encountered numerous greenwashing activities committed by many influential organizations, including some of the largest and most reputable global brands, government organizations and their affiliates, and major NGOs, I decided to write this book to raise awareness.
