About us
This is meant to be a low barrier to entry way for people interested in environmental issues facing the planet today to get started learning. There is both a lot of information and a lot of conflicting information out there - for example, does a single AI query emit on average 0.03 grams of carbon dioxide or 68? How much of climate change can be explained by carbon footprint? Is climate change the biggest environmental concern facing us today? What socioeconomic or political factors prevent us from addressing environmental concerns?
The idea is to offer a reading group where we will read and discuss articles or scientific studies each week. People will be expected to do the reading before the meeting, be asked to contribute 1 discussion question to a google doc, and we will meet over video chat to have a discussion after a short quiz. The quiz results will not be shared but is just for self-enrichment.
I'll start the group off by picking out the readings and write the quizzes, but in the future we can have volunteers who have been to at least a few meetings do that as well.
Topics could range from environmental action, climate change, sustainability, wildlife conservation, and more. The idea is to get introduced to a multitude of topics and start to comprehend the scope of these issues.
