Hike to West Creek Falls
Details
The West Creek waterfall is located on the eastern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park near the Cow Creek trailhead. This 5 mile out-and-back hike is rated as moderate to difficult based on an elevation gain of 1,404’ and the overall condition of the trail which is washed out on the south face of the mountain. This is not a hike for beginners. Be mentally and physically prepared to hike at a moderate pace and challenge yourself on two ascents. Please do not sign up for this hike if you dislike abrupt elevation gain.
We will rendezvous at 7:00 AM in the parking lot of JAX which is located at 2665 W. Eisenhower in Loveland. From there, we will carpool to the Cow Creek TH which is just east of Glen Haven on CR43. If you are a passenger, bring cash and chip in for gas. Once we get to the trailhead, we will hike at a moderate pace along the North Boundary Trail and the trail to West Creek Falls until we get to the actual waterfall. Everyone is encouraged to take off their boots, soak their feet in the large pool beneath the waterfall and simply relax. Automatic VIP status for anyone who stands underneath the waterfall and gets drenched!
I will pack a first-aid kit; however, I’m not a paramedic. I will do all I can to support you if there is an accident but you must accept the risk that comes with hiking in a remote wilderness area. This includes encounters with animals and unforeseen injuries. It is not my intent to discourage anyone. By signing up for this hike, you accept that risk and relieve the event host of any responsibility for accidents and personal injury during this hike which includes transportation to and from the trailhead.
What to bring? Hiking boots and poles are gear essentials. I also recommend layering with long and short sleeve dry fit type t-shirts. In addition to those essentials, bring a small backpack so you can shed layers as it warms up, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, favorite snacks, plenty of water and your desire to enjoy life with others in the great outdoors.
