Round Mountain Trail to Stone Mountain

NEW YEARS EVE MORNING - THE LAST HIKE OF 2025! Let's close out the year with a local hike. We'll meet at the Round Mountain trailhead for the approximately 8-mile roundtrip hike to Stone Mountain, with great views from the rocky summit. This hike starts out as a workout, climbing 1600 feet in the first 2.5 miles, but gets more relaxed after that.

MEETING LOCATIONS:
If you'd like to carpool, we’ll meet at Jax in Loveland (Wilson at US 34), leaving at 8:10 AM, planning to be at the trailhead by 8:30 AM. Please leave a note in the comments if you'll meet us for carpooling.

HIKE SPECS:

• Hike Distance: Approximately 8 miles roundtrip
• Elevation Gain: total gain with all the ups and downs over the round trip is about 2200 feet. (trailhead 5780', summit 7620')
• Difficulty: Moderate. Steep over first 2.5 miles; then gets easier.
• Duration: probably about 4 hours, maybe a little longer depending how long we stay on top, which probably depends on the weather!
• Dogs: allowed on leash

IMPORTANT NOTES:

• Max group size will be 16 people. Please be sure to change your RSVP if you can no longer attend.
• We'll have better idea about footwear as we get closer to the date. I always carry my spikes in the winter because you never know where you'll get icy stretches.
