Let's hike at Maxwell O.S. along Horsetooth Rez followed by dinner in FOCO!
Details
Hey guys,
Summer is here and i thought it'd be fun to cool off by hiking along the largest reservoir in Northern Colorado Horsetooth Reservoir!
Horsetooth Reservoir was built between 1946 and 1949 and began storing water in January 1951. The first water releases were made to the Poudre River in July 1951. Horsetooth Reservoir has a capacity of 156,735 acre-feet, 1,900 surface acres, 25 miles of shoreline and a maximum depth of 188 feet!
We'll plan to begin our hike at the parking lot at Maxwell Open Space where we'll hike north to the foothills just to the west and eventually up to the rim of Horsetooth Reservoir where we'll hike along before circling back to Maxwell Open Space. Please expect to go at a moderate pace gaining 656 feet in elevation gain and covering 5.5 miles in total.
We'll head to Fort Collins post hike for dinner.
Hope to see you on the trail!
