You’ve seen the billboards, bumper stickers and ads on TV but does he really exist? There have been unconfirmed sightings around the Eugenia Mine which is located on the eastern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park. My sources tell me he’s shy and quite hairy. Let’s find out! Now that you’ve had a good laugh let’s get down to business. Please read full description of hike before signing up.

The Eugenia Mine hike is a moderate difficulty 8.5 mile hike from the Lily Lake TH with an elevation gain of 2,303.’ The elevation at the mine is 9,908’ therefore this hike is not for beginners. Be prepared to hike at a moderate pace and go the distance.
We will rendezvous at 7:30 AM in the parking lot of the JAX which is located at 2665 W. Eisenhower Blvd in Loveland and hit the road by 7:35 AM. From there, we will carpool to the trailhead. If you are a passenger, please chip in for gas.
Once we get to this trailhead, we will proceed southwest along the Storm Pass Trail to the intersection of the Estes Cone Trail. From that intersection we will proceed southeast along the Estes Cone Trail to the Eugena Mine Trail which takes us to this abandoned gold & copper mine which is the midpoint of our out-n-back hike. We will hike as a group at all times and take multiple breaks as needed.

I will pack a first-aid kit; however, I’m not a paramedic. I will do all I can to support you if there is an accident but you must accept the risk that comes with hiking in a remote wilderness area. This includes encounters with animals and unforeseen injuries. It is not my intent to discourage anyone. By signing up for this hike, you accept that risk and relieve the event host of any responsibility for accidents and personal injury during this hike which includes transportation to and from the trailhead.
What to bring? Warm boots and hiking poles are gear essentials. I also recommend layering with long and short sleeve dry fit type t-shirts under a medium weight jacket. In addition to those essentials, bring a small backpack so you can shed layers as it warms up, gloves or mittens, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm, favorite snacks, plenty of water and your desire to enjoy life with others in the great outdoors. Finally, we will probably stop at Berthoud Brewing after the hike to relax and refuel. I’ve heard the Sasquatch pilsner is very refreshing.
