In January 2017 the theme for the meetup will be BigData, with focus on Spark.

The meetup starts at 7PM - but we will have beer and pizza before the meetup so you can arrive earlier at 6:30!

Meetup talks / presentations:

Attila Szűcs (https://www.meetup.com/members/5664882/) - Apache Spark for C# Developers

The first part of the talk is an introduction to Apache Spark, and it aims to demonstrate that you - as a C# developer - are just a step away from understanding the concepts of Spark. The talk will be accessible for non-c# developers as well.

The second part is about a project where we actually used Apache Spark and Amazon EMR to run C# code and successfully solve a business problem of a customer.

Attila (https://www.meetup.com/members/5664882/) is a Lead Software Engineer at EPAM, with a .NET background and primary focus on architecture, big data and distributed computing.

Máté Szalay-Bekő - Evolution of data modeling and optimizations in Spark

During the talk we will overview the evolution of structured data analytics in Spark. We will compare the RDD, the SparkSQL (DataFrame) and the DataSet APIs. We will use the very latest and greatest Spark 2.1, released on December 28, going through code samples and deep diving into Spark optimizations.

The talk is focused on batch analytics, but we might also get our hands a bit dirtier by digging into structured streaming if we have time. No Spark hands-on experience is necessary to understand the talk, although it doesn’t hurt ;)

Máté is working in EPAM Hungary as a Lead Software Engineer. He is specialized on bioinformatics and big data.

See you at the meetup!
