Equalize Digital Web Accessibility Meetup DC

In this engaging presentation, Nora L. Guy (CPACC) will take you on a storytelling adventure, worthy of Charles Muntz, through the world of digital accessibility. Using the characters and themes of Pixar’s Up to guide the audience, Nora explains her “secret sauce” for helping ensure good UX: empathy-driven storytelling that helps stakeholders understand the very human need for accessibility.

Nora will guide participants in understanding the principles of POUR and seeing accessibility not as a box to check off, but as a solid foundation for building a digital home that can soar to new heights.

Key outcome: At the end of the presentation, participants will feel empowered as not only UX architects but good stewards of the web.

About the Speaker: Nora Guy
Nora Guy is a seasoned web and UX designer who brings two decades of expertise, across public and private sectors to her craft. She holds a CUA and a CPACC, and is a huge advocate of lifelong learning. Nora holds a BA in Visual Art from SUNY Empire State University, and when she’s not designing, she’s pursuing art, writing, and ballroom dancing with her husband Eric.

Best practices on how to train your staff to provide accessible support will be shared.

• Understand what an Accessibility Support Policy should include and how to draft one.
• Learn how to communicate your Accessibility Support Policy to your support staff.
• Get ideas for how to create your own Accessibility Support Training and what it should include (e.g. why does accessibility matter in support, legal requirements, types of disabilities, categories of disabilities, assistive technologies, accessible communication practices, accommodation requests, how to handle issues, respectful language and tone, examples and scenarios).

Donata Stroink-Skillrud is an attorney licensed in Illinois and a Certified Information Privacy Professional.
