"Metaphorical thinking... shapes our view of the world, and is essential to how we communicate, learn, discover, and invent.” - James Geary

In creative work we routinely venture into the unknown and try to make big leaps with our ideas. Our customers and their needs are complicated, multifaceted, and difficult to capture. In these moments, when we might feel stuck, we can reach for metaphors. Similar to how Design Thinking employs visual frameworks for synthesis, metaphors can also serve as a tool for expanding and expressing creativity. In Design Thinking, we discover and develop insights to guide our designs. And similar to a strong insight, an apt metaphor captures something essential, gives your team a space upon which to collaborate and discuss, and suggests a direction to ideate.

In this 90 min interactive workshop, participants will gain a better awareness of the power of metaphor and employ it to practice their skills of synthesis, ideation, and collaboration.

The Standford d.School University is the world reference center of design thinking and human centered innovation (its oficial name is Hasso Plattner Institute of Design). This workshop is the result of the cooperation between both institutions. The Teamlabs’ cofounders, Max Oliva and Félix Lozano, have participated in their programs and activities since its foundation, being among the first ones in implementing these tools in Spain, which are part of a working methodology focused on developing creative and innovative culture within the organizations.

The Design Thinking methodology has become the new reference in leadership and business innovation and also in education. Teamlabs implements this methodology in its programs (LEINN Degree and Masteryourself) together with team learning and “learning by doing” actions in order to achieve a radically new methodology which reduces barriers between the academic and professional world.

The teams in the LEINN and in the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Masteryourself program take part in training actions in the Stanford d.school during the learning journey in San Francisco.
