Join us every Friday to put words together and create worlds.

This is a low-distraction and low-drama space. We're here to make headways on our projects. If you receives any unwanted private message during the session please private message me and I'll resolve the distraction in a fairly permanent way.

Start the day with a sense of accomplishment (and coffee) by writing. Enter into the bustle of life with a page or two written when your mind is clear and uncluttered. Join us for an hour of writing from the comfort of your own home (and coffee)

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain plan for world domination, you are invited to write it with us. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. And don’t worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice.

WHAT DO I NEED?

A computer with working camera and microphone, a good internet connection, and optionally, headphones.

Technical difficulties are part and parcel of getting together online.

If you’ve never used your computer for an online meeting, take a few minutes before we meet to familiarize yourself with how to use GOOGLE HANGOUTS by reviewing the below tutorial:

If you run into technical issues, remember that this is the time you’ve carved out for yourself and your writing. Whether or not you were able to join our online meet-up, go ahead and get your writing started, then leave a comment below to let us know how it went for you.

ABOUT THE EVENT
European time-zone, DAILY morning meeting (Monday-Friday).
Remark: the time of the meeting is always 9am with reference to Vienna-Rome-Amsterdam-Berlin-Madrid-etc... timezone.

We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers.

We generally do 2 consecutive 1-hour sessions, with a break halfway.

Feel free to drop in and drop out whenever necessary: adapt it to your schedule :D !

Only requirement: introduce yourself with the camera turned on (at start, break, final checkpoint, or even in the chat). This fosters a sense of connection and community - just to know who's the fellow in the nearby desk :D

FYI: there is no waiting room nor the need to create extra accounts for the conferencing tool currently in use + can be accessed through your browser.

PS. these events are not an opportunity to "date": we are friendly collegues and perhaps may become also friends, but all within a non-sexualized environment. Everyone has different boundaries and sensitivities but none should feel uncomfortable.

PPS. avoid communicating with me or others through the event comment sections - this is a measure of politeness since all people participating to the event will get then notified (even through email!) for each of our comments, which in almost all cases are of little relevance to them.

Join Beth Daley for an hour of quiet writing. No inspiration? No problem. Beth will display artworks and cultural heritage items from Europe's cultural heritage platform Europeana.eu on screen (with permission from the lovely team at Shut Up & Write!), so just look up, see how you respond and free-write. The visual will change, without fanfare, every 10-15 minutes. Use it, or just carry on with your own project. We'll check in before and after the writing.

Dr Beth Daley is a novelist, cultural and creative writer and Europeana's Editorial Adviser. She works on engaging a broad range of audiences in Europeana’s work and content. She has a PhD in Creative Writing, runs a range of writing workshops and her first novel, ‘Blood and Water' is published by Hic Dragones in Manchester. A self-confessed story addict, Beth has led various initiatives in digital storytelling with Europeana, including acting as new writing mentor in Europeana’s Digital Storytelling Festival Online Creative Residency.
