HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTH BANK
HANGING OUT AT THE SOUTH BANK
Inspired by Sheila Liming's 2023 book, Hanging Out, this event is about "daring to do nothing much, and even more than that, about daring to do it in the company of others." If you're curious, you can read more about my rationale for the event [here](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/hanging-out), and how our pilot event went [here](https://experimentsingroupwisdom.substack.com/p/it-worked). **This event will take place in the foyer of The Southbank Centre.** You can find us by looking out for: * Me - I will be wearing a black T-shirt with HANGING OUT written on the back * Our table - which will have a red flag draped over it with THE SUNRISE CLUB emblazoned on it (though this clearly isn't THE SUNRISE CLUB! If you want to find out about that, you can do so [here](https://www.meetup.com/the-sunrise-club/).) There are plenty of places to buy refreshments, but you can also bring your own if you prefer. If you feel like using the hanging out as a carrot for some creative work, please join us an hour earlier for [WRITE CLUB](https://www.meetup.com/experimentsin/events/313686721) \- an hour of silent writing/reading in the same location\. And if you'd like to finish the evening with a dance, there is a free social salsa meetup just outside The Southbank Centre just afterwards. How Your Past Experiences Can Negatively Affect You
How Your Past Experiences Can Negatively Affect You
Description: Join us for an enlightening lecture that delves into the intricate web of the past and its potential to cast a long shadow over our present lives. In this thought-provoking session, we will explore the profound ways in which the past can negatively impact our well-being, choices, and personal growth. Throughout history, human lives have been shaped by a multitude of experiences, both positive and negative. These experiences accumulate, leaving imprints on our memories and shaping our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. While the past holds valuable lessons and cherished memories, it can also harbor unresolved conflicts, traumas, and limitations that subtly influence our present reality. During this lecture, we will navigate the labyrinth of psychological and emotional baggage that may accumulate over time, inhibiting our personal development and impeding our ability to lead fulfilling lives. By examining the effects of the past on various aspects of our existence, we will gain a deeper understanding of how it can manifest in detrimental ways. Through engaging discussions, case studies, and real-life examples, we will explore the following topics: 1. The Power of Unresolved Trauma: We will delve into the profound impact of unresolved traumatic experiences and how they can subtly shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By shedding light on the intricate mechanisms behind these effects, we can begin to dismantle their hold on our lives. 2. Inherited Baggage: Examining the intergenerational transmission of pain, beliefs, and patterns of behavior, we will explore how our ancestors' experiences can unconsciously influence our lives. By recognizing and addressing this inherited baggage, we can break free from destructive cycles and chart our own path. 3. Limiting Beliefs and Self-Sabotage: Uncovering the deeply ingrained beliefs and narratives that stem from past experiences, we will explore how they can become self-fulfilling prophecies, stifling our potential and sabotaging our aspirations. By challenging these beliefs, we can reclaim our personal power and reshape our narratives. 4. Breaking Free: Strategies for Healing and Transformation: This segment will offer practical tools and techniques for healing past wounds, releasing emotional burdens, and cultivating resilience. We will explore approaches such as therapy, mindfulness, self-reflection, and forgiveness to facilitate the process of letting go and embracing personal growth. By the end of this lecture, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the profound influence the past can exert on their lives and how to break free from its negative impact. Armed with newfound knowledge and practical insights, they will be empowered to embark on a transformative journey towards self-discovery, healing, and the creation of a brighter future. Note: This lecture is open to all individuals seeking personal growth and a deeper understanding of the psychological and emotional factors that shape their lives. No prior knowledge or experience is required, only an open mind and a willingness to explore the depths of the past.

Journey to the End of the Night (urban chase game)
Journey to the End of the Night (urban chase game)
**SocialSportsMix have teamed up with London Journey for this creative urban game!** **NOTE: You must pre-register** **at [https://londonjourney.org/](https://londonjourney.org/) to actually play!** FYI, there are **141 players** registered to play on the main site!! (correct as of: 16/04/26) Journey is a free volunteer-run interactive urban chase game in which hundreds of players traverse the city, completing challenges at checkpoints, guided by checkpoint agents from fairytales, while evading chasers. Get caught and become a chaser yourself, or make it to the end of the night without getting caught to win! # ✨ Welcome to Fairy Academy ✨ Tonight, your magic awakens. You have been chosen as a Fairy Trainee — a spark-bearer, glowing with wild, untamed fairy dust. You’ve felt it already: the air crackling when you run, laughter spilling out around you, the shimmer just under your skin. But listen carefully. You are not a fairy yet... Raw fairy dust is volatile. It flares bright… and then it burns out. To claim your wings, you must survive the Five Trials of Fairy Academy. Each test will sharpen your magic. Each checkpoint will push you closer to transformation. Pass all five, and you will rise crowned with your Fairy Title, your power steady and eternal. But the night is not empty. Lurking in the dark are the Dropouts — former trainees who lost their light. They no longer create magic of their own. Now they hunt it. If they catch you, they will siphon your fairy dust to feed their fading glow. Lose your spark… and you join them. Run bright. Guard your glow. Graduate, or be consumed! **————————————————————————** **\- WHERE/WHEN** The course, which begins at Jubilee Gardens will be approximately 9km and may take 2 to 4 hours to complete (accounting for interference). Check-in will be from 4:00-4:30pm and the game will begin at 5pm. Do your best to be on time. **\- How do I play?** Register here: https://londonjourney.org Full rules of gameplay will be presented there. **\- Where has it been played?** The game has been played in cities all over the world (see [https://ichaseyou.com](https://ichaseyou.com/)), including in London in 2007-2009 and 2024-25. Join us for 2026! **\- Why is the game free\, is there a catch?** We organise Journey to the End of the Night because we are passionate about helping Londoners to get out of their comfort zones, explore the city, get creative and immerse themselves in imagination. We love doing it and spend several months preparing the game. It is important to us to be able to keep it free to players so that it is accessible to anyone. That said, we do incur costs for the game materials, maps, ribbons, etc (typically a few hundred pounds) so if you're able to support us with a [donation](https://buymeacoffee.com/londonjourney) of £5 it really helps! [https://buymeacoffee.com/londonjourney](https://buymeacoffee.com/londonjourney) **\- Are there ways I can get involved before the event?** If you're interested in being a part of the creative volunteer community organising Journey, please visit [LondonJourney.org](http://londonjourney.org) and fill out our volunteer interest form or email LondonJourney24@gmail.com and we'll get in touch! **-What should I wear?** Comfy clothes/shoes for running Theme (time travel) related costume - optional **-What should I bring?** Water A charged smartphone or good sense of direction

Free London walk: Regents Canal to River Thames, Isle of Dogs, Greenwich, 8km
Free London walk: Regents Canal to River Thames, Isle of Dogs, Greenwich, 8km
This is part of my series of leisurely London walks aimed at exploring and getting to know the city better. They are easy, largely flat and shorter in length than my countryside hikes. As we leave Mile End tube station, we enter **Mile End Park**, created on land devastated by bombing during World War II. It is a 90-acre linear park that runs along the edge of Regent’s Canal. Walk along **Regent’s Canal** taking in the sights. We eventually reach **Limehouse Basin**, a quiet location sprinkled with residential accommodation and boats - the River Thames, Regent’s Canal, and Limehouse Cut all meet here, each providing a green highway along which wildlife can move around the built-up area. As we follow the **Thames Path** in the **Isle of Dogs**, have your camera ready for stunning views of the waterfront and the **city’s skyline** (the Shard, Walkie Talkie, etc). Also soak in the views of the glass skyscrapers of **Canary Wharf**. We will continue along to the **Greenwich Foot Tunnel**. The tunnel sits 15 metres beneath the River Thames and is 370 metres long. It was opened in 1902 and connects Island Gardens in Tower Hamlets in the north to Greenwich in the south. On exiting the tunnel in Greenwich, we immediately come across the **Cutty Sark**, the state-of-the-art Victorian tea clipper. It was built in 1869 and designed to carry tea from China to England as fast as possible. A fashion developed among Victorians for consuming the first tea to be unloaded in London – this spurred the ‘great tea races’ and intense competition to get home first where you could command huge prices. The Cutty Sark was designed to be fast! Explore the grounds of the **Old Royal Navy College** – a cultural destination in the heart of the **Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site**. It is an award-winning visitor attraction and one of the UKs most sought-after film locations due to the iconic architecture of its 18th century buildings, expansive grounds and views of London. It has appeared in Netflix’s Bridgerton and blockbusters such as Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor II, and Skyfall, among many others. The Painted Hall here is the jewel, known as Britain’s Sistine Chapel (we will not be entering it as there’s a fee). You could also spend time in St Peter and St Paul Chapel (we may visit the Chapel if it's open). We end up at **Greenwich market** with its arts and crafts and food stalls. Once the walk ends around here, feel free to explore Greenwich further on your own! **Cost:** Free **Start time:** 10:00am **Start location:** Mile End tube station - I’ll be waiting on the pavement at the exit (main road A11). My mobile: 07951673142 **End location:** Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich DLR station / Greenwich market (they are 2 min apart by foot) **Length:** 8km **Ascent:** largely flat **Time:** approx 3hrs - exact end time depends on the weather, pace of the group, and our breaks. **Pace & Difficulty:** an easy, relaxed, and leisurely pace. The aim is to enjoy being outdoors and have a fun, friendly walk. It is suitable for beginners. **Transport:** Mile End tube station (Central, District, and Hammersmith and City lines). Check the status of the tube before travel. Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich is a DLR station in Greenwich. **What to bring:** Check the weather and bring appropriate gear. Walkways and trails can be muddy and slippery. A comfortable backpack, waterproof jacket, sufficient food, snacks, and water along with suitable socks and footwear (sturdy shoes with good grip/waterproof hiking boots) are some essentials. Remember to carry any medication you may require. If it’s sunny, don’t forget a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen! **IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER / TERMS AND CONDITIONS:** **By participating, you confirm you have read, understood and accepted the below, including the full** **[Terms and Conditions](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XZWpVX-8U98Syt2MPGZCX_wYS2jDrCTh/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=101093099300290936197&rtpof=true&sd=true)** **I am NOT a qualified hike leader or first aider.** Hiking, walking, and hill walking carry the risk of personal injury and death.
