Next Meetup

Tuesday Mobbing
Join us for our next Mobbing in Central London! We'll be meeting on The Strand at 7:00. Groups will take a pre-planned route, sharing the items we bring along with us with the homeless individuals that we meet on the route. While bringing along items is not necessary, things that are appreciated include soft food (because many of our homeless friends have dental problems, hard food like apples are best avoided) juice, water, and of course, socks! We also sit, talk and interact with the homeless, which is just as important as any provisions that we provide. Don't worry if you've never previously joined us on a walk as all new members will have a warm welcome at our meeting point. Even though we are not a formal/professional organisation or charity, we always strive to place new members in a group with a long term member or organiser. The informal nature of our meetup group has been key to us performing our specific role within the homeless volunteer community. After an hour or so, members have the option of joining us for a quick drink at the Lord Moon of the Mall pub to chat about our experiences and to get to know other members (Address: 16-18, Whitehall, SW1A 2DY) For further information, please visit our About Us page at New mobbers are welcome to message us with any questions or you can text Lynn on[masked]. Looking forward to mobbing with you!

What we're about

Ever considered the impact a pair of socks can make?

Come with us and see! We are a group who engage with the homeless in London by cutting through the misconceptions, prejudice and fear that often accompany stereotypes of rough sleepers and other vulnerable groups in the city. We walk, sit and talk with them in a moment of mutual learning and trust, driven by the ethos of unconditional human contact and friendship. Anyone with an open mind and the willingness to be challenged and step out of their comfort zone can join The Sock Mob!

And a simple pair of socks is all it takes to break the ice.

We meet in small groups, led by a member (either an organiser or walk leader). We meet every two weeks - usually on a Tuesday evening, at a pre-arranged Central London location and walk around for about an hour or so. We bring along food, drinks and basic material goods we can share with homeless people we have gotten to know over the years, chatting and catching up with their news. The main aim is to listen, talk and forge meaningful links with them in a completely non-judgemental and agenda-free way. Afterwards, members have the option of joining us at a local pub to catch up with others from the different routes and to chat about our experiences. Occasionally, the RSVPs are closed once our allocations of groups are full, but there is always the following mobbing!

We are not a charity or formal organisation of any kind. We are an informal group of volunteers/organisers with a desire to put humane principles into everyday, effective action.
