(Beginner-Friendly) Rope Climbing at Mesa Rim
Are you looking to make new climbing friends and meet belay partners? Hello and welcome!
This is one of our weekly climbing events\. We meet up\, we climb top rope and lead\, we help and cheer each other on\, and then we head to \[Tyson's Tacos\]\(4905 Airport Blvd\, Austin\, TX 78751\) \(7 mins away\) for tacos and drinks\.
**Never done rope-climbing before?** No problem. We will pair you with experienced climbers and they can belay you. We can also teach you the basics of belaying if you would like to attempt to get certified (to be able to belay others).
**Note that Mesa Rim only allows assisted-brake belay devices such as Gri Gris. If you have an ATC, you can borrow an ABD at the front desk.**
\-\-\-
**Please also read the below carefully:**
FIRST TIME AT MESA RIM?
* You should plan to arrive 15 minutes early so you can fill waivers and rent gear if needed, and also get top-rope certified. If you are new and think you will be late, please let the organizer know.
WAITLISTED? While we don't turn anyone away, as a matter of courtesy you should message one of the organizers to make sure they can accommodate you.
KEEP YOUR RSVP UPDATED! Our events have limited spots, so if you RSVP and then find out you cannot make it, change your RSVP to no. Serial offenders of this policy may be removed from the group entirely.
Coffee and Craft
Join us for Monday morning coffee, crafting and conversation! Bring what ever portable project you are working on. If you are new to the craft there are usually folks to help you learn. There are a variety of coffee and tea items and a tiny selection of pastry items.
Pineview Coffee Company is a small yet spacious coffee shop on the 1st floor inside the Aspen Lake Amenity building. There is only a small sign by the door that has the name of the coffee shop so it can be a little challenging to find.
Hope to see you there!
PS unofficially part of this group meets here every Monday so come what ever week you can.

Celebrate Our Groups 2 Year Anniversary at Whitestone Brewery WITHOUT Crawfish!
**Come join us as we celebrate our very successful 2nd year as a group!**
We will gather on the patio of Whitestone Brewery around 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 25th. We will socialize for a little while as the team finishes preparing the crawfish. At 2:30, we will share a moment of gratitude for the friendships and connections that we have fostered during our first year together. After that we will eat, drink, and socialize...what we do best!
**Please note there are 2 events for the same celebration**. The event you are reading about now is for those who do NOT want crawfish. For those not eating crawfish, I encourage you to come and enjoy some great pizza from 600 degree pizza that is collocated with Whitestone Brewery!
If you want to attend the celebration and enjoy some crawfish, you can sign up for the event that has the same title but **WITH crawfish**.
Please reach out to anyone you connected with through this group and encourage them to come celebrate with us. And, if you haven't joined us for an event yet, this will be fantastic opportunity to make some great new friends!
I hope to see you there,
Mike
6.6-mile Brushy Creek Regional Trail Evening Hike @ Cedar Park [🔦 Recommended!]
**IMPORTANT:** Due to construction at our previous meeting location which closed down the parking lot we've temporarily moved the starting location to **Brushy Creek Lake Park**. The relevant information has been updated to reflect this.
Join us for our **recurring** scenic **6.6-mile (10.6-km)** evening at the Brushy Creek Regional Trail in Cedar Park!
We’ll take a relaxed pace through one of the city’s most beautiful trails. The hike should take about **2 hours**.
**ℹ️ Additional info**
The purpose of this specific event is to have a recurring way for us to meet relatively easily. I want to make sure that recurring events are a "low effort" commitment, ie you don't have to drive 2 hours to get there. In the future once we have more organizers I plan to have more recurring events scheduled so we can cover a larger area.
Also, you may have noticed that **this event has an RSVP limit**. This is done for multiple reasons. Not only to ensure that a large group is not disruptive to the rest of the Austin community on the trail, but also to allow us to prioritize the "meetup" experience for every attendee, as having +60 people may be overwhelming, and ultimately the goal of this group is to build a community, not just a collection of individuals that like a specific trail.
**📍 Where to Meet**
2310 Brushy Creek Rd, Cedar Park, TX 78613
Google Maps **exact meeting spot link**:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/yAzHpoVQdXXAG3XD8
Route on **AllTrails**:
[Will be added in the future]
**🅿️ Parking**
Parking is available directly at the parking lot close to where we'll meet. There will be enough space for everyone.
**ℹ️ Recommendations**
* Bring good shoes (Although the terrain isn't challenging and relatively flat)
* Pack some water (More than you need, just in case)
* Bring a friend! (That's my attempt at a shameless self-promo for the group. Although even if you don't, I am confident that you'll get along great with the people you'll meet at the event!)
* A flashlight! Your phone is better than nothing, but a dedicated flashlight would only be of benefit of you as the sun sets!
**👍 Good to know**
* 🐶 Dog-friendly
* 👨👩👧 Family-friendly
* ♿ Wheelchair accessible
**Event Etiquette (Important!)**
* If you RSVP'd, but are unable to make it, please update your attendance as soon as possible. The attendance limit prevents new people from joining if we're at capacity otherwise. If we notice a pattern of you RSVPing to events and not showing up, you will be kicked from this group.
* Please show up on time. We will start right at the indicated event time. This is to respect everyones time. If you're a few minutes late, it should not be an issue as the "intro" to the event may take 15 minutes or so, but we will not delay the start until you get there.
* Other than that, I know all of you will help me make this group great for everyone. So thanks in advance for that!
**Event itinerary**
Below is the general outline of how the events are going to function
* Updates since last event
* Official introductions of everyone
* Icebreaker question
* The event itself
* After event:
* (As needed) Updates for next event(s)
* Exchange goodbyes
**🙂 I want your feedback!**
I am working on making this description as informative as possible, if anything is missing, you have any recommendations or there are errors/mistakes, please reach out to me, thanks!
