Der Name Rueda rührt daher, dass alle beteiligten Paare einen Kreis bilden, wobei sie jeweils synchron die gleichen Figuren tanzen. Bedingt durch Partnerwechsel, die jeweils zu den getanzten Figuren gehören, dreht sich die Rueda bzw. das Rad.
